Trump Won More of New York’s Votes. Did He Win More of Its Love, Too?
The New York Times ^ | Nov. 23, 2024 | Shawn McCreesh

Even though Donald J. Trump is cloistered in Florida and planning his return to Washington, it seems like he has been stuck in a New York state of mind.

He went out of his way to throw rallies in the Bronx, Nassau County and at Madison Square Garden, and then, after winning the election, he went right back to the Garden to watch a fight there. He has been uncharacteristically friendly toward the governor and both of the state’s senators (and they have been uncharacteristically friendly back). He keeps talking about how he wants to fix the subways and rebuild Penn Station. The Trump Organization just announced it is trying to get back control of Wollman Rink in Central Park. And he has been stocking his new administration with New Yorkers (Elise Stefanik, Lee Zeldin, Howard Lutnick).

This thaw follows a decade-long freeze in which Mr. Trump was reviled in his hometown. During his presidency, his very name became tantamount to a curse in Manhattan. He could barely step foot on the island without protests erupting. In 2019, he and his wife, Melania, officially switched their residence to Palm Beach, Fla. But those who know him say he never really became a Florida man.

“He’s a New Yorker — that’s what he is, that’s the first thing he is,” said Cindy Adams, a longtime New York Post columnist and Trump confidante. The president-elect is such a New Yorker, she said, that he even has a special phone line that can be reached only by “a few super New Yorkers” he trusts. Naturally, she is one of them. “I just talked to him on his private number,” she said. “I call him, and he answers it automatically. Nobody else answers that phone.”

LOL- the NYSlimes grasping at straws....

“He went out of his way to throw rallies in the Bronx, Nassau County and at Madison Square Garden”

And he was embraced at all of them with the “love” they talk about. I was at the rally in the so Bronx- it was unreal and i, a white male, was in the minority.

*Yawn*

With the NYT, there’s always a glass-half-empty side to ANYTHING pertaining to any Republican.

I think a lot of American’s felt the same way they did when Slick Willie was getting clobbered in office. People just get tired of it. The commie RATS really went overboard with Soro’s horde of ghettopotamuses, Leteatia, Ms. Big Fani, Fat Alvin and Jack the Ripper Smith.

Trump won the popular and electoral votes by a big margin. However, given the hard core anti Trump vote, I wonder what the Margins would have been if the Republican candidate was someone like De Santis?

Cool that Barron chose to live where he has lived all his life...and commute to College. A fine example of a young man making decisions.

I'll actually give kudos here to AOC. She reached out to her district with an honest question, "Many of you voted for both me and Donald Trump. Why did you do this?"

And she posted the answers she received. Most of which were, "Both you and Trump seem real. Kamala was fake."

The Slimes should focus on how many illegal votes there were to see the real margins.

I love how Trump was never afraid to go into lion dens. He campaigned _everywhere._ Even in states he _knew_ he would lose. Just to keep spirits up and project the well-earned winning attitude. That, I think really encouraged folks in swing states. He exuded the confidence of being 10 points up and campaigned like he was 10 points down. He took nothing for granted.

Contrast with McCain, who wouldn’t go to Michigan because he thought a waste of time, money, and effort. So much so, that he wouldn’t let his best asset, Sarah Palin, go there on her own to give Michaganders hope and the will to fight.

This is how he won the popular vote. He didn't care. He knew he'd never win NY. But he also knew there were millions in NYC who would vote for him.

Flipping the popular vote might have been Trump's greatest accomplishment this election. A GOP presidential candidate hasn't won the pointless (but massively bragworthy) national popular vote since 2004. And only twice since 1988.

Why is Trump stuck on these old liberal New Yorkers from the 1980s?

I bet some New Yorkers who do not like his policies somewhat admire his ‘Never Say Die’ comeback and his sheer will to fight.

I think it was excellent that he came to California. Some posters here scoffed at the idea. California is a big red state with moldy blue edges.
