What happens when an atmospheric river and a “bomb cyclone” happen at the same time? Unfortunately, millions of people living on the west coast are about to find out. Extremely high winds, massive amounts of rain, and blizzard conditions in the mountains are being forecast for the days ahead, but nobody is quite sure exactly how this extremely unusual weather event is going to play out.

‘82 was probably the worst in recent years.
Meanwhile, here in New Mexico, we had a weird early snow storm a couple of weeks ago. Broke a bunch of branches with the heavy snow and leaves still on the trees. Cost my PID about $6K in clean up.
Now it is the same old, same old...dry conditions, highs in the 50’s, lows near freezing.
Yawn.

It’s going be a hurricane following multiple tsunamis. We’ll see if the nuclear detonation happens. If not, it might just be hype. Post 7 is a keeper...
We had an inch per hour for twelve hours. I made it home through the Santa Cruz Mtns. My car didn’t. Got back to work in Santa Clara 4 days later and picked up 40# of dry ice on the way home. As I turned down the road near home, PG&E was throwing on the power. Iced the freezers anyway. Now have a generator for the house and about 4 days of fuel.
If a bomb cyclone almost snaps a tree, does anybody care?

The article I referenced had nothing to do with the current weather report, it was simply a report about the polar vortex during the month of October.
Portland meterorologist claims the main storm will stay 300 miles off shore. Oregon Coast will get heavy rain and high winds 35-40mph with 60mph gusts from SSE. 80 MPH at offshore weather buoy.
The caveat “could change” was thrown in as a disclaimer.
We have high surf warnings for tonight, as the the storm generated waves will travel to the coast.
