Atmospheric River + Bomb Cyclone = Major Disaster That Is About to Hit the West Coast
Based Underground ^ | 11/18/2024 | Michael Snyder

What happens when an atmospheric river and a “bomb cyclone” happen at the same time? Unfortunately, millions of people living on the west coast are about to find out. Extremely high winds, massive amounts of rain, and blizzard conditions in the mountains are being forecast for the days ahead, but nobody is quite sure exactly how this extremely unusual weather event is going to play out.

I’m in Spokane. Don’t need all that rain here, and Blackie, the feral cat I feed every night, won’t come out of his bush to eat crunchies. He has a couple of cat houses in dry places that a neighbor and I bought him, but we don’t feed him in his houses. Maybe we should.

I wish they could share the wealth some. We’re in a very severe drought here in the NE.

We have a pond nearby that is almost completely dried up I’ve never seen it that low.

“Bomb cyclone” is a meteorologic term describing the specific progression of a low pressure system. It’s an economy of words to them. It tells them volumes about what to expect in two words.

It’s not the meteorologists who are hyping it and freaking out. It’s the frauds at the MSM and their climate scam buddies who took it and turned a descriptive phrase into a cudgel to fear monger the public with.

Explosive cyclogenesis aka Bomb Cyclone
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explosive_cyclogenesis

“Explosive cyclogenesis (also referred to as a weather bomb,[1][2][3] meteorological bomb,[4] explosive development,[1] bomb cyclone,[5][6] or bombogenesis[7][8][9]) is the rapid deepening of an extratropical cyclonic low-pressure area. The change in pressure needed to classify something as explosive cyclogenesis is latitude dependent. For example, at 60° latitude, explosive cyclogenesis occurs if the central pressure decreases by 24 millibars (0.71 inHg) or more in 24 hours.[10][11] This is a predominantly maritime, winter event,[10][12] but also occurs in continental settings.[13][14] This process is the extratropical equivalent of the tropical rapid deepening. Although their cyclogenesis is entirely different from that of tropical cyclones, bomb cyclones can produce winds of 74 to 95 mph (120 to 155 km/h), the same order as the first categories of the Saffir–Simpson scale, and yield heavy precipitation. Even though only a minority of bomb cyclones become this strong, some weaker ones can also cause significant damage.”

Lol. I used to work with a guy named Donner. I always smiled at the thought of what it would sound like if he had a restaurant reservation. “Donner party of four your table is ready”:)

I also, experienced the 1962 Columbus Day storm. I hope this storm is not the 90 mph winds that played havoc back then. I don’t like having to stock up on the leaded gas required for my generator.

Re: "nobody is quite sure exactly how this extremely unusual weather event is going to play out."

Wet, windy weather is NOT uncommon in Seattle and the Cascade Mountains in November.

I do not understand the new weather terms.

Most likely, they mean that a very wet tropical system is moving northeast from the central Pacific Ocean, and, a very wet and chilly system is moving southeast from the Gulf of Alaska.

The two storms will apparently collide over western Washington state.

Pacific Ocean tropical weather systems strike the Pacific Northwest land mass about one time per winter.

Heavy snow in the mountains, heavy rain in lower elevations.

Fortunately, most of the autumn leaves have fallen, which means modest tree damage, and some power lines getting knocked down.

I’m pretty sure they still make lead additive. Not sure if you were joking about that, where would you get leaded gas at? The airport?

The last REALLY big one was the Great Flood that filled up the Central Valley, right?

I’ll guess this won’t be anything close...

We used to call it “the pineapple express”, but that wasn’t enough hyperbole, so they changed it to “atmospheric river”.
But with climate change and all, people already expected normal weather to be reported as extreme, so they came up with the more attention grabbing term, “bomb cyclone”. Not sure what’s next. Maybe “armageddon typhoon”?

These storms tend to be a little warm, but with any luck we’ll get a little snow pack out of it. At a minimum, it should add some water to our northern reservoirs.

Vastly over hyped, strong winds will stay out over the ocean and outer (unpopulated) n.w. Vancouver Island, I doubt there will be significant wind damage in western WA or OR, and rainfall fairly moderate also. A second low, not very windy, will track up the coast on Thursday and bring rain and very mild temperatures. Snow line in Cascades will recede a bit as a result. No big deal.

Sometimes all the factors in storm development come together just right and we get nailed.

I meant ethanol free fuel. My mistake to say leaded gas. It is no longer available. However, ethanol in fuel causes problems with the carburetors in portable generators. Ethanol has a tendency to absorb water. That water moisture, combined with ethanol, slowly deteriorates the metal parts of the fuel tank and carburetor.

We bought a used 5,000 generator for $100. We need it because, where we live, wind storms always cause downed trees into the power lines. It was hard starting. When I put gas with ethanol in it that was the worst thing I did.

I think the change to gas with ethanol was a big disrespect to all small engine users. Boaters were especially hard hit. For us it ruined the carburetor and would not start again. Like many others, we had to replace the carburetor. Those who replaced the carburetor told me to never use fuel that has ethanol.

Also, when storing the non-ethanol gas for long times in portable gas tanks, you always have to add a fuel stabilizer. Rather than paying the cost of fuel stabilizers, during periods of non-use, I always drain the generator’s fuel tank into the portable gas tank, and put all the unused gas into our car.

I could avoid all this gas generator care by putting in a Generac standby system that uses the natural gas we have.
