When it comes to taking care of your body, chances are your kidneys are often overlooked. But this pair of organs does more for your health than you realize. They remove wastes from the body while ensuring that the water, salts and minerals are balanced in your blood. The kidneys also make hormones that create red blood cells, control your blood pressure and maintain your bone health.

It’s a bitter salad green.
I must've been a real SOB in my past life, the way this one is going, looks like some kind of payback.
It’s not THAT bitter, at least not to me…or my husband. I often serve it with other spring mix greens. I think you may want to try a vinaigrette with it over creamy dressings, but we like it from time to time. Don’t be afraid to try it, especially if the arugula is on the young side, meaning smaller leaves.
The only way I can eat cauliflower is chopped up in a salad. I’ve tried it so many times, prepared in a myriad of ways, and the only way I can eat it is raw, finely chopped up in a salad.
“It’s a bitter salad green.”
Anything like kale? I make kale salad sometimes, with blueberries, red raspberries, walnuts, mandarin oranges. It’s very pretty!
By the time my grandkids...I don’t have any yet... grow up. Boys will no longer have dicks and girls will no longer have breasts. How sad our once great Country has become. Thank you Donald Trump for giving us a few more years.
Slap some Ranch Dressing on it.
As long as your kidneys haven’t already failed. Dark leafy greens and arugula are loaded with phosphorus. Very, very bad for dialysis patients.
Nothing like kale. More like dandelion greens. It's slightly bitter and peppery tasting. I don't dislike it, but not crazy about it either. It's ok on a sandwich or a salad.
I buy about 10 pounds of fresh cranberries this time of year and wash and freeze them. I cook a couple ounces with half an apple cut into small pieces. When mushy I cut the heat and add a couple ounces of Wyman’s frozen blueberries, a bit of wheat germ, flax meal, walnuts, and either yogurt or canned whip cream.
Cola soft drinks too, phosphoric acid. Ginger ale, OK.
Best of all? ‘Adam’s elixir’ (Lincoln): water.
In a lot of grocery stores, you can buy egg whites already separated from the yokes, the yokes are used in other food products, so you really aren’t wasting anything.
A lot of people eat things like egg white omelettes, personally I don’t like them, other people do which is fine.

There’s different renal diets depending on what kind of chronic kidney disease you’re dealing with, but this one looks pretty typical.
Usually all of them are very low sodium, and no processed foods. Protein quantity is often restricted, especially animal based protein because it involves hyperfiltration which makes kidneys work harder.
“I was so thankful dark chocolate was on the list.../s”
Well I read it is good for you maybe just not the kidneys. I’m partial, when in stock, Aldi’s 70% cacao dark chocolate.
“The only way I can eat cauliflower is chopped up in a salad”
I’m not to big on cauliflower either but this recipe looks intriguing. There are a few “cauliflower steak: recipes out there.
Is there a senior center in your area? They usually have group activities scheduled. Women always outnumber the men, so you would be popular.
It’s peppery ... absolutely delicious on a ham and cheese sandwich.
I keep hearing people say we’re ultimately going to die, so why worry about what you eat? The goal is not to live to 105 or what have you, the goal is to be functional and feel good for as long as the Lord lets you live on this planet. I am a retired fitness instructor (got my 2 certifications at age 52), and I can absolutely tell you that by and large those who exercise regularly and eat well are enjoying movement, mobility and daily living more than those who do not. Of course, genetics play a role in health, too, but even then, people do better by not eating poorly. You are also less of a burden to your loved ones if you pay attention to your health.
.
I suppose that it is worth trying - once.
Who knows, maybe you will like it. (?)
.
I just looked up a description of it’s favor -
The flavor can be bright, tart, peppery, and slightly bitter, depending
on its maturity. You'll find that baby arugula is delicate and mild, while
mature arugula is much spicier.
