I've been perusing many anti-virus rating sites and I'm still somewhat confused. I don't really use VPN, I don't need parental controls, and I want something easy to understand. Most of the websites give Bitdefender a top rating, followed by Norton. I once had a bad experience with Norton, so I still have that bad taste in my mouth. And now, a friend is asking me what anti-virus software HE should use, since his is expiring soon.
Can we please review what would make a good antivirus for my Apple iMac?
I’ve been using BitDefender AV on my Mac for maybe five years and have been happy with it.
I also use “CleanMyMac” from MacPaw to do a whole bunch of utility cleanup and junk removal tasks. “CleanMyMac” also has malware monitoring and scanning.
Both have been rock solid and very worthwhile.
EXACTLY! Thanks for the confirmation!
Or save the wasted money and get a Mac. The new Mac Mini M4 Pro will be my new toy soon.
Been using BD for many years. Perfectly satisfactory.
Did you say you are using an iMac? Then you don’t need any of that.
Webroot. Been using it for some years now.
It’s 20 bucks a year (via Amazon) for 3 machines.
Well worth it.
Webroot
We switched to free BitDefender, and are happy.
ESET NOD32.
We’ve used it for years, and I run a VPN from TorGuard alongside it.
Microsoft Defender should be enough nowadays and it is free.
Yep, if using Windows, Microsoft Defender works fine... and it doesn’t put a bunch of bloatware on your computer like some of the other stuff (paid and free)...
I have looked around very often and the results said windows defender always came out as the best option. Just FYI.
I’ve been using Linux for my internet surfing for over 25 years, and with no anti-virus. Never had a problem.
I’ve been using bitdefender total security for about 15 years and have never had a problem.
These days, I just use Microsoft Defender - haven’t had a lick of trouble in over 5 years...
You may be overthinking this bro
I use Eset and it is fine. I have issues with norton which came installed on my new computer after deleting norton and installing Eset I started getting pop up warnings telling me my computer was infected and needed to install norton.
2025 will surely be the year of Linux desktop.
