Former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio will resign from his role on the Wisconsin football staff after being arrested early Friday on citations for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Del Rio, who joined the Badgers as a senior advisor in August, allegedly struck a street sign with his vehicle, broke a fence and came to a rest in a yard, according to an incident report from the Madison (Wis.) Police Department.
Multiple reports stated officers were directed to the 61-year-old Del Rio by witnesses, which noted the ex-Raiders coach walked away from the area and “showed signs of impairment.”

He’s lucky he didn’t hurt anyone.
Expensive lesson.
Hope he has enough saved up to retire.
He was head coach of the Jags for nine years, then the Raiders for three years. Maybe he does.
Coached the Jags nine years? I can see why he has a drinking problem.
I saw a true crime video where a kid who was drag racing on the street hit and killed a pregnant woman.
He got 24 years.
I think of all the times in my youth that I could have ended a family’s happiness when I was driving crazy. Thank goodness it never happened.
But I dont get why they are so much harder on sober racers than drunk drivers.
It gives credence to the idea that being drunk diminishes your fault in the crime.
It doesn’t. In my opinion, it increases it.
You are right. He was indeed lucky.
Who will be unlucky if he does it again?
Gotta crack down on that stuff.
“Hope he has enough saved up to retire”
He may very well surface somewhere in a season or two......even if not, I’m sure he won’t be living under an overpass anytime soon.
Steve Sarkisian is now the head coach at U. Of Texas. He had issues with the bottle at USC a couple years ago.
Coaching for the inmates soon?
He will not do time but a Wisconsin D.A. will Badger him until he takes a plea.
Fortunately for him, it looks like Sarkisian is now clean and sober. As a Washington Husky fan, I feel like he was a traitor in going from UW to USC (after saying the UW job was his “dream job), but really do hope the best for him.
Jack Del Rio is down the river.
Vending machines have families too.
Coaching for the inmates soon?
“Mean Machine...Mean Machine....”
When my kids were young there was a breathelizer detector in every car’s glove compartment. If they tested and called. Not a word was said.
Wow. That was really smart.
Most kids would be terrified to call home even if they weren’t good to drive..Especially if they weren’t good to drive!
And that can end really, really badly.
