State investigators are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of the beloved Instagram famous P'Nut the squirrel.
The DEC is conducting an internal investigation into the controversial raid on Mark Longo's home, where both P'Nut and Fred the raccoon were seized and euthanized.
Despite Longo's claims that officers wore protective gloves, the animals were killed and decapitated for rabies testing after P'Nut allegedly bit an agent's hand.
'An internal investigation into the matter is ongoing, and we are reviewing internal policies and procedures to ensure we continue serving this core mission,' a DEC spokesperson told The New York Post on Friday.
State and local health departments, including the DEC, the state Health Department, and the Chemung County Health Department, have been tight-lipped about the rabies test results and the condition of the injured agent.

By the way, since my first vehicle totalled by one of the prolific and protected deer I have yet to see a poacher.
Human dentistry is not comparable to keeping a pet squirrel.
They appear to have tried ‘least force’ back in January.
As I’ve said elsewhere, if this was such an egregious use of force, the man can sue and let it all come out in court.
But it looks like he’s too busy sucking up online views, taking in Go Fund Me donations, etc.
Would you take your dog to an unlicensed vet?
There are lots of good reasons, including humane ones, for those who work with wildlife to be trained and licensed. It’s irresponsible to think that everyone should just be free to do whatever they like with wild animals.
The irreversible act is the two innocent pets are DEAD. Killed directly by goverment agents.
Typical over the top actions by goverment enforcers.
In principle like the WaCo masacre which was justified by failure to collect $200 firearm tax.
Were it in my power the entire team and the administrator(supervisor) who authorized the raid would be fired and barred from future government employment.
There is speculation now that the authorities may have been looking for more than the animals...
Was there a warrant ?And did it specify something other than the animals?
Government often abuses the authority granted to wildlife officers by having them incidentally observe something while ostensibly only doing animal control.
Of course there was a warrant.
Give us an example of ‘government’ using a wildlife search to observe something else...
Did the warrant specify only the animals?
The entire warrant hasn’t been published, that I’ve found. But the couple now claim that they’ve begun legal action, so I guess we’ll find out; though I somehow doubt that will come to much.
However, considering this guy’s...’vocation’...the authorities might have gotten accusations/concerns of a different sort, as well. He has even suggested as much himself.
I find all the sexploitation distatesful but it seems to exist everywhere ,sometimes hidden, sometimes brazen.

Just found out that when the NY Government took Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon, they also confiscated the owners AR-15.
This is going to be a HUGE lawsuit.
