There is a small Irish pub in a small lake town by me.
The crowd is diverse middle class heavy Trump supporters.
They have a touch tune jukebox there and tonight the playlist was full.
John Lee Hooker - Boom Boom
Huey Lewis and the News - New Drug
Meatloaf - Dashboard Light
Smack dab in the middle was Rush 2112
I was suprised to see it there and I couldn't understand why someone would play it.
2112 starts playing, it is all of side one.
I. "Overture" – 4:31
II. "The Temples of Syrinx" – 2:16
III. "Discovery" – 3:25
IV. "Presentation" – 3:41
V. "Oracle: The Dream" – 2:00
VI. "Soliloquy" – 2:19
VII. "Grand Finale" – 2:16"
At the end, the light went on and it was an amazing moment when I realized what the person who played it had done.
The ending was epic in that setting at that volume with all of those people.
It's worth setting 20 min aside to listen to Side 1 again here.
Spoiler 20:06 mark "we have assumed control"
By the way, if you haven't ever read Anthem, you should. Very short, more of a novella. Aa fantastic argument/endorsement of individual liberty, and a frightening picture of what "equity" really means.
I believe the label was about to drop them.
