There is a small Irish pub in a small lake town by me.
The crowd is diverse middle class heavy Trump supporters.
They have a touch tune jukebox there and tonight the playlist was full.
John Lee Hooker - Boom Boom
Huey Lewis and the News - New Drug
Meatloaf - Dashboard Light
Smack dab in the middle was Rush 2112
I was suprised to see it there and I couldn't understand why someone would play it.
2112 starts playing, it is all of side one.
I. "Overture" – 4:31
II. "The Temples of Syrinx" – 2:16
III. "Discovery" – 3:25
IV. "Presentation" – 3:41
V. "Oracle: The Dream" – 2:00
VI. "Soliloquy" – 2:19
VII. "Grand Finale" – 2:16"
At the end, the light went on and it was an amazing moment when I realized what the person who played it had done.
The ending was epic in that setting at that volume with all of those people.
It's worth setting 20 min aside to listen to Side 1 again here.
Spoiler 20:06 mark "we have assumed control"
RIP Neil Peart.
His drumming on this album is exceptional (as is the bass and lead guitar, as usual).
Interesting. If I remember, the album is about censorship and oppression, but the ancients come and save the day. Guess I have to go listen to it again. Thanks for posting.
Rush was one of those bands that I got into a little later in life. Especially the older stuff. I had to grow to appreciate it.
One of these days I'd like to tackle some of their late-career albums.
Anyhow, my all time favorite Rush song was the one where they went, "Let's make a song that sounds like The Police! They're really big right now!"
And by all means, please stick around for Peart's drumming near the end.
exactly - parallels abound
some magnificent bastard played it on a Friday night in a full diverse middle class bar
not sure how many got it
i thoroughly enjoyed it, even more so at the end when the light went on
I saw them perform the entire album live back in the day.
Awesome performances.

ATTENTION! ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION!
We have assumed control…We have assumed control…We have assumed control…
“Our computers fill the hallowed halls” if I remember right. The priest controlled what everyone thought and said.
Pert wrote that in 1976.
I had the fortune of getting a picture autographed during the Permanent Waves tour. That entire album is awesome.
Peart is by far the best drummer I’ve seen in concert. Rip
2112 was a great album as were permanent waves and hemispheres
I was lucky enough to see them do some of those live, back when talent was king way before there were all the electronics and lip syncing bands use today.
but this album from Queensryche is just as good

I’m more of a Moving Pictures guy.
The priests of the Temple of Syrinx are definitely democrats.
The song is basically a rock adaptation of Ayn Rand’s novel “Anthem”. Although there, the protagonist rediscovers electricity rather than music/guitar.
Best comment left on this video: “My drum set watches this when I’m not home”. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“...but this album from Queensryche is just as good”
Rush is my favorite band, but Operation Mindcrime is my favorite album...
Thank you. I didn’t know that, although I know Neil was well read.
Totally agree.
