GOING TO THE INAGURATION - VANITY
Mathews | 10/15/2024 | Mathews

Posted on 11/06/2024 7:55:54 AM PST by Mathews

This is a happy day! My wife just called and said she wants to go to the inauguration and I'm all in. Before anyone wants to tee-off on me by saying something like, "Google is you friend," I have looked, but I want to hear from y'all too. So, I would sincerely appreciate any and all tips and recommendations from folks who have gone before. We'd be coming up from Raliegh and are wanting to do this as an "up-and-back" rather than an overnight trip. Thanks all!!! Have a great day.

Can’t wait to see Melania’s lovely choice of clothes for all the events to come.

It can be very, very cold here on Inauguration Day. In 1985 they had to move everything indoors, it was so cold.

Get yourself invited to one of the balls instead.

I think the magazines are already to give her the props they didn’t give her the last time. I’ve seen a couple of positive stories on her recently in lefty rags.

I already told the wife she should go with functionality rather than fashion for that very reason. Thanks for the input!!

You need to contact your congress critter and ask for tickets. I was all set up for Bush Jr’s, including reservation at the Freerepublic party hotel, but my wife didn’t want to go.

We’d go as well, but Trump hasn’t had enough time to clean up D.C. yet. Maybe the 250th anniversary

My grandmother died in January of 1985, and we wound up holding her memorial service the evening that they celebrated the inauguration. A bunch of relatives showed up to the service in formals and furs, as they were attending balls later.

That would have tickled my plain, humble little granny...

Congratulations. I hope you get to attend the inauguration and have a great time. Stay safe, leftist idiots have been known to get violent when they don’t get their way.

And one quibble: “Google is you friend.” Some search engines may be your friend, but Google is assuredly NOT your friend. Google is EVIL.

Just did that. He’s a Democrat, so not holding my breath. Thanks!

The inaugural parade is worth seeing. It's history. My father told me that he watched Harding's inauguration in the 1920s. I saw Regan's first inaugural and remember spotting Nancy's orange-red coat on the West Front of the Capitol from twelve blocks away. I was at Trump's inauguration too, although I remember that for some reason the parade down Pennsylvania Avenue was delayed for more than an hour.

You need to get down there early, maybe at 9 am to get a good spot on the curb, and then you'll have to fight to keep it. Otherwise, you'll be straining to see anything over half a dozen lines of people in front of you. My suggestion is to try and get a spot on the Northern side of Pennsylvania Avenue around 12th Street. Penn Ave. turns toward the Southeast at 12th, so you will have a clear view to the Capitol and the Treasury Building in front of the White House looking either right or left. Also, the parade has to slow a bit going around the curve. Another good spot is near the Federal Trade Commission building or on the opposite side on the block between the National Gallery of Art and the galleries' East Wing on the Southern side of Penn. Ave.

Finally, see if you can wrangle an invitation to the ball at the Willard.

Meh. I wrote that because the only other time I wrote a vanity, I got flamed for it because “Google is your friend, look it up yourself,” guy showed up. You are 100% correct in your analysis of Google.

Awwww. That’s a nice story for an otherwise somber occasion.

GOLD!!!! Thank you!! We’re taking my boys with us and they are big guys, so keeping folks away from our spot shouldn’t be an issue. We don’t have any contacts at all who we could get tickets out of. I did write my congressman for tickets at the recommendation of another Freeper, but the REP is a DEM, so not holding my breath.

In 2017 the security was strick for the inaugural parade. Barriers were on Pennsylvania Avenue. Not sure what the lefties will do this time. I have been in the DC area since 1985. During the early years you could just walk over and watch the parade. In 2005 I contacted my Congressman for tickets at the swearing in. We were in the back.
