The entire police force of a small town in Oklahoma resigned on Thursday without explanation leaving the place in turmoil with locals demanding answers.
The mass resignation along with two city council members was announced in a Facebook post in which locals were told that an acting police chief would still remain to police the tiny town.
Geary, with a population of about 1,000, is now being covered by forces from neighboring Blaine and Canadian counties.
But the announcement has left locals puzzles with the original statement shedding little light on what was behind the mass walkout.
'To the Citizens of Geary. We regret to inform you, and we are sad to say that our entire Police Force resigned this morning at 10:00am,' Geary Public Information Officer Terryl Allen said in a statement.
'Considering this information, we were able to quickly secure an interim Chief of Police effective immediately, so the City of Geary is being taken care of without delay.'
Locals appeared baffled by the sudden resignation with little to be gained from reading Facebook comments.
'But why did they all resign?' asked one.
'I think an explanation as to what happened is what everyone wants. The entire towns police force just quit all at the same time and no explanation?' asked Robert Binswanger.

Seen it happen in small towns.
It is a disease that has infected lots of places,
Town of a thousand?
One or two people?
Yep. Geary only has 4 patrol officers who patrol only 10 square miles.
If so, folks may have been working on a shoestring and the camels back finally gave in.
Rather than Kick up a fuss, these probably either just split or retired elsewhere.
If a city or town neglects to invite businesses in, or becomes business unfriendly, this all too often is the result.
Also, many small cities and towns become gentrified. Nobody there but the elderly, mostly living on social security. The revenue simply gets eaten up... And unless there is an influx of young people, places dry up, looking pretty decrepit.
Cities and towns die off regularly. The roads crumble, the weeds and scrub take over and only a pile of rubble is left. Sad, but true.
Wise is the city council that pays attention to how it operates. And not just over human foibles.
I hit a deer (totaled car) in Montana a half-hour from a moderate sized town late at night. Was just barely able to put a 911 call through.
The deputy came out and arranged for a tow and helped. He said I was lucky that he was in town. At night there is just him to cover the entire county.
“I could have been up in Ridge City [I don’t recall the actual name] - that’s a 3 hour drive north. Well - we hardly ever go up there anymore. They don’t like us. They handle their problems themselves - and that’s fine by me.”
” The entire towns police force just quit”
A town of 1000 doesn’t need a police force. The county sheriff’s office should be able to handle the two calls a day.
A town of 1000 should be able to police itself, everyone knows each other.
“No I am not kidding.”
I believe you. That’s the first thing that came to my mind. They’re jumping ship before some major corruption is exposed. When I saw that councilmen also resigned with the cops ... yeah...

But still no answers...
Some backround on the mayor from a glowing write-up...
Former Geary City Council member Rocky Coleman says he and Kristy Miller resigned on Thursday. Coleman provided Fox 25 with the following letter, where he states that his core values do not align with the city's current direction:
“You’re the one that knows nothing. I grew up in a small town not too far from Geary. My dad was on the city council. I know of which I speak.”
You know of the small town you grew up in. But, you cannot make any assumptions about small towns generally.
I too grew up in a small town; pop less than 6,000. We had none of the bad things you assume all small towns have.
You need to learn to read more carefully. I never use absolutes when I write; l always use qualified terms.
I never used the word “all.” If your small town is somehow free of modern problems, congrats I guess.
Used to be a nice quiet town with the Stagecoach Inn and the spring fed Tub with the little Coffee Shop/Restaurant.
Then suddenly it exploded into a huge tourist trap. Last time I went through the it was a huge mess.
So much for the old days...
“You need to learn to read more carefully. I never use absolutes when I write; l always use qualified terms.”
You need to read and write more carefully.
I too did not use absolutes.
You used the term “often” with no more than your own anecdotal example, without any evidence that your “often” was anything more legitmate than “sometimes”.
If “sometimes” is what you meant, you should have said so. “often is no more than a subjective impression, without facys/stats to back it up.
