The MONTHLY Gardening Thread is a gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to/removed from our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a MONTH Ping List, but we DO post to the thread all throughout the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
A few years ago I joked with my Uncle about the 20+ Creches he owns, collected on his world travels. “Surely, Uncle, you could part with ONE?”
The next week he gave me the whole shebang! I just love it and will cherish it always. It has the Three Wise Men and Camels and everything. :)
Beautiful dogs. Blue Heelers?
Yes Indeed.
My Blue Heeler is named Tippy, and she’s every inch a “working” dog.
Always moving, always on a “mission”.
Our neighbors who have a horse ranch raise the darker Heelers. Those dogs earn their keep and she gets top dollar for pups when she breeds them.
OK! It’s the day after Thanksgiving, so around here that means SOUP! Turkey Wild Rice Soup, to be exact.

My cheats/hacks: Instead of adding the flour to the sauteed veggies to make a roux, I thickened the soup with leftover gravy. Genius! I also chopped, sauteed and added a container of baby Porta Bella mushrooms. In lieu of water, I added homemade chicken stock, and just a little milk because the gravy thickened things up just fine. I did not add any salt, but added ground pepper and some freeze-dried Shallots. You can substitute cooked regular rice for the Wild Rice. Beau brought me some beautiful Wild Rice from up north a few seasons ago. It’s pretty expensive as an ‘everyday’ ingredient, though.
I’ll bet! They are hard working dogs and have great personalities.
LOL! Thanks, Pete!
A day early...and for once I HAD the dollar! :)
(Versus a Day Late and a Dollar Short!)
