The MONTHLY Gardening Thread is a gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to/removed from our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a MONTH Ping List, but we DO post to the thread all throughout the month. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Hope Springs Eternal! :)
All of the above! :)
“As for hair, how long is yours? If short, maybe consider letting it get longer.”
It’s about waist-length, but when Beau & I started dating, he liked my ‘wild tresses.’ I usually wear it in a pony or a ‘messy’ bun. He doesn’t want me to cut it.
BUT - it’s probably time to go to a cute ‘bob’ that’s shoulder length so I’m more inclined to leave it down. My hair and I have been in a life and death struggle since I left the Army - where I always wore it so short that sometimes I’d be called, ‘Sir.” LOL!
The only time I wore my hair short was when I was a young mom and my daughter pulled my hair and my earrings incessantly. Then when some store clerk called me “sir”, (and I don’t look anything like a “sir” from any direction), I decided I better let it grow again. For many, many years I kept it shoulder length or just beyond.
However, the last couple of years I have been growing it long again. Not quite to my waist. Middle of my back. I wear it up or in a pony tail sometimes, but I’m also re-learning how to do pretty braids.
Although my husband and I were teenagers when we met, he never knew me with long hair to my waist. It’s “in” again, and we both think it helps keep me looking younger than my actual years. Very few people know my real age, and I’m glad I don’t look it (or act it). Of course, dressing in jeans most every day disguises it some. I couldn’t possibly be “that old” if I’m still wearing jeans. Not mom jeans.
I view it as stubbornness. I hate to be pigeonholed. Never fits me. I’m a rebel. Sometimes. Did I mention that I don’t like to be pigeonholed?
There was some talk about Thomas Massie, but that was walked back.
It needs to be someone who will promote regenerative farming, not Big Ag. RFK Jr. understands the subject & should have some good suggestions - he is on the transition team.
Well, I’ve finally figured it out...your FR ‘handle’ of ‘Familiar Face.’
You’re Morgan Fairchild in Real Life, aren’t you? ;)
Rainy Sunday here in SW Wisconsin, Zone 5a. Not much going on in the garden save for Calendula still blooming (you can’t kill that stuff!) and Kale - green (Prism) and purple (Scarlet) to use so I am making some Kale Pesto, today. This is my favorite recipe from ‘Love and Lemons’ which is a great website and a cookbook that I own. I’m going to try a batch with the purple kale just to see how it looks - not sure if it will end up looking ‘brown’ instead of a bright purple color, though! ;)
This vibrant kale pesto is bright, nutty, and delicious! Toss it with pasta, or find more serving suggestions in the post above. Leftover pesto will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for up to 2 months.
Ingredients
½ cup pepitas
1 small garlic clove
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, or 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
Heaping ¼ teaspoon sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper
2 packed cups chopped curly kale
2 tablespoons lemon juice
½ cup extra-virgin olive oil
Instructions
In a food processor, pulse the pepitas and garlic until the pepitas are ground up. Add the cheese or nutritional yeast, salt, and several grinds of pepper and pulse again.
Add the kale and lemon juice. With the food processor running, drizzle in the olive oil, and process until combined. Season to taste.
Notes
Tip: If the kale pesto is too bitter, add ¼ teaspoon maple syrup or honey.
Makes 1 cup.

LOLOLOL…no….not even close. Plus, she didn’t actually age well. And she’s a lot older than I am.
How to Use Kale Pesto
You’ll love having this kale pesto on hand in your kitchen! It’s super versatile, so have fun experimenting with different ways to use it. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Toss it with pasta. Use it instead of basil pesto in my Easy Pesto Pasta recipe.
For a lighter dish, replace the regular pasta with spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles.
Spoon it over a frittata or sunny-side-up eggs.
Swirl it into mac and cheese.
Scoop it onto a bowl of soup. I love it on my Ribollita, Tortellini Soup, and Tomato Basil Soup!
Serve it as an appetizer with crusty bread for dipping.
Slather it onto a Caprese sandwich, a grilled cheese, or any sandwich you like.
Dot it onto homemade pizza.
Toss it with roasted veggies for a yummy, healthy side dish.
It’d be fantastic with roasted cauliflower, butternut squash, or sweet potatoes!
Dollop it onto a grain bowl, like this Roasted Veggie Grain Bowl or this Kale Pesto Mushroom Pistachio Bowl.
This sounds appealing to me. Think I’ll give it a try.
I found a fairly current photo of her. She’s 74.

I only have two containers of this Pesto left (frozen) from last year, so now is the time.
I only have Pistachios on hand, so that’s the nut I’ll use.
I always loved her. Another smart and funny gal. What a long and interesting career she’s had. Estimated Worth at $20 Million. Are you SURE you don’t want to be her? LOL!
Pretty sure. I’m not a blonde and I think I would look odd if I decided to go blonde. I can’t even picture myself like that.
I’m trying to decide what famous person I would like to be. It’s a hard question.
Maybe Jaclyn Smith? Shes at least a brunette. Don’t know if it’s true or not, but she always seemed like she would be a nice person instead of a beyotch.

"Food regulation: Massie and then Rep. Jared Polis promote "food freedom" legislation by sharing a meal that includes hemp scones, raw milk, kombucha, and beef raised by Massie (August 2015) In 2014, Massie introduced the Milk Freedom Act and the Interstate Milk Freedom Act, a pair of bills that would allow the transportation of raw milk across state borders.[138][139] Massie explained: "It's legal to drink raw milk in 50 states. It is legal to sell raw milk in 28 states. The Feds need to quit arresting farmers for taking raw milk from one raw milk state to another raw milk state".[140] In 2015, Massie introduced the Processing Revival and Intrastate Meat Exemption (PRIME) Act to ease federal regulations regarding the sale of meat within state borders.[141][142] According to Massie, under current federal regulations "farmers and ranchers are increasingly forced to ship their animals to far-off slaughterhouses for processing" which "presents financial burdens, threatens the quality of meat sold, and ultimately makes it difficult for consumers to purchase fresh, local meat".[143]
Snip "Massie lives in an off-the-grid home that he built on his cattle farm in Garrison, Kentucky.[4][205][206] He constructed the home while chronicling its progress on his blog, "Building a Timberframe Home From Scratch", using wood and stone that he gathered from the farm.[11][205][207] The home is powered by solar panels and a salvaged Tesla Model S battery he retrofitted for his home's electrical system.[206][208] As the owner of a Tesla Model S as well (becoming an early adopter in 2013),[209] Massie has referred to himself as the "greenest member of Congress".[207][210]"
Quiviut sez..”I have not bought tomatoes at a store for years - no taste at all.”
Yep. Sort of like eating soggy cardboard!
Beau has his own system. I don’t interfere, LOL!
Wish I could wrap a hose as quickly as a Pool Boy, though! ;)
