Make Election Day a Federal Holiday, Require In-Person Voting
Real Clear Politics ^

Posted on 10/29/2024 10:19:31 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

Designating Election Day as a national holiday and giving workers the day off paid would largely mitigate the need for mail-in voting and make possible a return to paper ballots, eliminating the need for voting machines which have been swamped in scandal since 2020.

Agreed. Federal holiday, give everyone the day off, in person voting only, return to paper ballots, no more electronic crap, and mandatory to show proof of ID.

Jane-let’s hope so. We can do it. It’s important to make sure the election is fair but the left won’t look at it that way. Since so many Americans believe in voter ID we can win on it but making sure the postal/DMV workers do their job correctly might not happen. We gotta get them out of the loop.

Most every town has a federal postal office but not a DMV. Reregister everyone with all the appropriate questions, fingerprints, and pic on the form-one page.

What states do not allow in person voting?

What states do not have paper ballots?

I know that in the 50s or 60s there were those big old mechanical voting machines that recorded the vote internally but are there really any states today that just have votes recorded internally without any type of paper ballot audit trail?

If he does, it will be enjoined by a federal judge immediately and appealed all the way up to the Supreme Court which will find it unconstitutional. Because it is:

“Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress”

Washington has mail in voting only. There is no in person voting, although you can go to the county elections office for assistance.

There should be a test to determine whether they understand the issues. Some all they know is D or R good, R or D bad.

Yes. A federal holiday, no “early voting”, no mass mail in ballots and mass mail in voting, only witnessed and ID verified amsentee ballots, where the voter and their witness are verifying a valid reason for the absentee vote. Also, repleal of the “motor voter” law and I would like the locale of a voter’s registration to be their permanent residence, requiring college students to register where their actual home is, not the temporary city they attend college in. That remove some of the concentration of the Leftist vote in college town-districts.

No need for a national holiday-just do it on a Saturday.

Close call, do it on a Fri or Mon and many will make it a 3 day weekend, leave town and not vote. Anytime during the week disrupts the work week. How abut voting on one of the current holidays?

In any event. mail-in voting is a ridiculous concept that offers none of the security of in-person voting. It spends too much time in the public domain, it is handled by too many machines and human hands and is subject to mistreatment carelessness and loss.

It should be abandoned, except for a very few circumstances.

Disagree. SOME people have to work every day and no one will be able to come to an agreement on the best day. Essential services run around the clock. Even on weekends. If people really want to vote, they need to find a way, and they will. This was never a problem in the past. It's an artificial conundrum. I do fully agree that all voting should be in-person at an approved polling place, with valid identification. No distance should between a voter and the ballot box. To much mischief is possible otherwise. (Rare exceptions for the infirm and military overseas voters.)

Thanks. Figures that it would be a deep-blue state that doesn’t allow in-person voting.

frog frog frog!
Those that don’t take it serious enough should NOT vote. These uninformed that do vote we’ll have to accept. Either way is fine by me.

1) Can we do it?

2)Will we?
