NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland has learned that Robert Fisher, the man who raped and killed a 3-year-old girl in Rensselaer, has died in prison.
Fisher had just begun serving his sentence of 20 years to life at Elmira Correctional Facility.
Fisher killed little Josefina Cunningham in July of 2023.
When he was sentenced last month, Judge Debra Young lashed out at Fisher, who drugged the little girl, raped her, killed her and tried to cover up what he’d done.
He kept his head down during the proceeding.
After sentencing, Josie’s relative said: “the case deserves the death penalty.”

I’ll shed no tears over this but as a society we should have the fortitude to sentence this killer to death, not turn a blind eye to another psycho who will kill because he enjoys it and drape himself in righteousness of “taking out the trash.”
I am still glad he’s dead, but you are correct. Two tiered justice. If the race of the victim and perpetrator had been reversed, it’s likely he would be paroled in 20 years. We need to treat these crimes seriously regardless of the race of either victim or perp.
The idea that he could have been out in 20 years is infuriating.
