A professor of medicine has claimed that, through scientific progress, humans will soon be able to reverse the effects of death, the Telegraph reported .
Sam Parnia, an associate professor of medicine at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, told the publication that what we collectively believe about death today—that it is a final end to life—is “fundamentally wrong.”
According to Parnia, death is a “reversible state.”
People only believe that death is irreversible because they have been conditioned to think so, and to stifle scientific progress, he claimed.
“People used to think you could never go beyond the boundaries of [flying], let alone going beyond the atmosphere of the Earth,” he said. “And if you always believed that, then you’d never try.”
Furthermore, Parnia claimed, it is helpful to understand death not as a moment at which “everything stops,” but as “basically an injury process” that can be treated.
As a result, a large part of overcoming death by means of science will be altering the public perception of death, which is currently a “social convention” that does not “conform with scientific realities.”
More concretely, Parnia claimed that Yale University’s 2019 study demonstrated adequately that pig brains can be brought back to “life” temporarily after death.
A 2022 study also showed that pig brains and hearts could be brought back to function with the aid of other synthetic organs.
According to Parnia, it is only a matter of time until the same methods can be applied to human beings.
Still, he hedged his optimism by suggesting that the best candidates for immediate life extension are those who die from some acute cause while being in otherwise good health.
“If I have a heart attack and die tomorrow, why should I stay dead?” he asked. “That’s not necessary anymore.”
No one escapes the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Entropy increase always prevails. Things fall apart and there’s no putting them back together again.
Well, this comes to mind, "And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment."
Reanimating a human body through "synthetic" means doesn't mean the person's soul returns. Then again...returning soulless people back to life means more Democrats.
It takes hours and hours for all of the cells in a human body to die once “death” has been declared.
That’s been known for a while.
And a small percentage of the brain is still alive (individual cells) for a while after 5 or so minutes...just not much of it and not enough cells in any given area to do anything of value.
But they ain’t dead. A lot of cells in the body aren’t dead yet...long after the dr. says “he’s dead Jim”
Reversing a totally dead brain? I dont think so.
Reversing what we call the time of death a half hour later....maybe...but what the heck would be left...more monster than human..not enough old cells to function right...just enough to be a freak.
Great... Now everybody can get Alzheimer’s.
Dr. Frankenstein I presume...?
Kamala Harris.
Second Law is only applicable to isolated systems. We aren’t living in an isolated system. The fact we are alive is because entropy elsewhere is increasing - but within us we have order.
Well, if you want zombies... that’s how you get zombies!
Anybody want some Doritos?
Yup—raising the dead just in time for the election.
:-)
Build a transporter. That will do it but keep bugs, germs and viruses out of it when using it. That would get nasty.
Well, if you want zombies... that’s how you get zombies!
Just please don’t figure this out until Hillary is long gone
I think I saw them early in the show.....
HA HA
well, HilLIARy’s magic resurrection elixar ass-shots only can keep her (semi-) vertical for a brief time
which explains why you may not have seen her for long after the show got underway
Therefore...a person may live for a very long time while his environment increases in entropy and loses all useful energy ...then the living being will have no more energy available to use to stay ordered, and being an isolated system, will eventually become disordered till death and beyond.
IMHO
It’s FrankenstEEn 😆 😝
I’m curious about this: Someone has a stroke, and loses function in parts of the brain permanently. This is due to lack of oxygen. This goofball is talking about being DEAD dead for some amount of time, and being able to bring people back from THAT?
As someone above said: “You first”.
Yes...the Macrobes are here....and Dr. Filostrato. Great story. Prescient one might say.
