Folks, advice needed:
I live in South Philadelphia, the heart of the inner city.
Some non-negotiable things: I’m not moving, I won’t surrender the ownership of my home, no surrender.
So, in anticipation of the Election, I’ve stocked up on batteries, lanterns, charcoal, matches, canned goods, fire extinguishers, cash, gold, candles, ammo, non-firing weapons, first aid supplies (wife is a Nurse) and gasoline.
Anyone better versed in this than I am have suggestions which I may have overlooked?
Got links for any of those?
“Iron” telephone - once familiar [your choice may vary, desktop or “princess phone”] type of telephone connected by telephone wires to the telephone company.
Power for that type of telephone, is supplied by the phone company. IOW, NOT a modern “voice over IP phone.”
Helmet - something to protect your head. Even a “wool cap” that you can put on your head, is better than nothing, because the “good ol’ wool cap” offers some cushioning, for when your head bangs into something that has an altitude lower than the top of your head.
Be prepared to have to crawl beneath the smoke (ash) level. Again, bucket of water in each room. A flashlight available at each bucket. When you pass by one of the flashlights on the way out of the house, turn ON the flashlight and leave it there . . . for others to notice and see the way. (You, of course, and they, of course, are wearing the previously-mentioned, attached flashlights.)
All this info is nothing new; regular ol’ WW-II era practical training. The old barracks had ropes / rope ladders at each window.
rinse and refill bleach bottles with water for storage (i accumulated over 500 gallons over the years)... oil lamps and indoor lamp oil... camp stove for cooking... walkie talkies for communication... i’ve ridden out a few hurricanes lately... we’re still cleaning up after hurricane helene rolled through suwannee county florida...
That’s what I’m missing ... Nurses.
I KNEW I forgot something!
Need a pack of 6. Or 12. LOL
No I’m firing weapons wtf?
Oh remember the Philly cheese steak sandwiches.
Looking at 12 gauge, I see palmetto has some rio royal buckshot in various shot sizes on sale now. I don't know how this performs, but had used rio target loads in the past. There are some reviews that seem to indicate the buckshot patterns okay and performed well but may be a little longer than 2.75".
They also have a daily deal on winchester super-x.
As usual, check out reviews on things before you buy....
And as others have mentioned, talk to neighbors about mutual support and defense. You can't stay awake all the time....
Got a bunch of P51’s around Y2K. Still have a few left.
Some ready to eat meals and if you are a believer- a bible.
a couple porch mounted M134s would be my suggestion...
Plastic kitty litter jugs are the best for storing toilet water. One jug, one flush.
I have found milk at Dollar Tree that is in a carton and not refrigerated until after you open it (I’ve heard that Europe does their milk this way), so would be good to have some of those on the shelf for cooking. $1.25 per quarter so affordable. The ones I’ve bought so far have a shelf life of a year.
A Harris/Walz sign for your front yard and a BLM flag.
“When they come for us”
I want us all to not be there. Do not resist the first wave. Roll over. Run.
We, the citizen resistance, need to be around on day 2. To get to day 2 we need to be free, alive and healthy at the end of day 1.
When they come for us, or you, don’t be there.
Why “non-firing” weapons? If it’s a gun, you will need it to fire. I would imagine any election unrest in your city would last a long time, and the effects would be worsening with time. Supplies don’t last forever. You don’t want to leave your home, but you still need a long-term escape plan. My place here in Texas will be somewhere friends and relatives will be “bugging out” to. But, I still have an escape plan if things got that bad.
Beer
It’s all chicom stuff no what the price or where you buy it from. If you don’t want anything from Amazon at least go there and do the searches there to build ideas and then a big box to buy it for a little more. One thing I didn’t buy yet is one of the WiFi ‘trail cams’ with night vision, it is stationary and might be a better choice anyway.
Shovels.
There’s a hand”gun” advertised on a lot of conservative shows, that is legal in all states, but isn’t really a gun. I think it delivers chemicals or something. Doesn’t kill, but puts someone out of commission for 30 minutes. Thirty minutes is a good amount of time to make an evildoer “re-think” his intentions.
“Stock up a few 1 gallon old milk containers with tap water.”
In Alaska, my aunt always had a stash of Clorox bottles filled with water “just in case”. After the 1964 earthquake it took a few days for water wagons to show up so people like her were careful to have plenty on hand.
