Kevin Stefanski: Deshaun Watson Still Browns' Best Chance to Win

One day after the Cleveland Browns' offense continued to crater in a 20-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, coach Kevin Stefanski again placed his support behind Deshaun Watson as the team's starting quarterback.

"I think Deshaun gives us the best chance to win, continues to give us the best chance to win," Stefanski said Monday when asked why he wouldn't insert backup Jameis Winston as the starter. "We need to play really good offensive football at his position, and really at every position to be successful."

In Sunday's defeat, Cleveland's fourth straight, the Browns became the first team since the 2014 Jacksonville Jaguars to fail to reach 20 points in each of its first six games. Cleveland is also the only team that has not recorded 300 total yards in a game this season.

Watson has posted a 21.5 QBR, the lowest among qualified passers, but Stefanski said after the game that he is sticking with Watson at starting quarterback.

On Monday, he reiterated the decision to keep starting Watson is his own.

When asked if co-owner Jimmy Haslam is "forcing" him to stick with Watson, Stefanski said, "I don't get caught up in narratives, but we have a good dialogue with myself, [general manager] Andrew [Berry], ownership about all things that have to do with this team. They've been nothing but supportive, and any decision when it comes to football is my decision."

I think it was 31/31. But Watson is playing historically bad. Loom at the in-depth article in ESPN today. Winston would help just by not taking so many unnecessary sacks.

Look how good the team was with Joe Flacco last year. And he's almost 40. I never even thought Flacco was that good in his prime, but he lead them to the playoffs last year, after spending most the season on his couch.

It’s amazing how NFL teams obsess on shiny objects. The biggest mistake a team can make is thinking they’re 1 player away. It’s a 53 man roster, if you sell your soul for 1 guy you’re team is going to be weak in other positions and you’re gonna stink.

Although really their biggest mistake was firing their OC. With all those QB injuries they had he somehow managed to keep the offense kinda good, and got them into the playoffs. Who makes the playoffs with a 5 QB season?! And they fired him. And now the offense sucks. Gee there’s a surprise.

I’ve followed “the mistake on the lake” my whole life. Trade 5 years of no. 1 draft picks for a sex offender who can’t play. Get rid of Mayfield( who is now leading Tampa Bay into playoffs!) and Joe Flacco ( who set Browns passing records last season). As long as a Haslam is involved this team will go nowhere! At least they made the Herschel Walker trade the 2nd worst in NFL history!

Nick Chubb...
Deshaun got big contract...no need to play hard....OL probably wants to see him get hurt...the way they block for him...

Stefanski is toast....McCarthy is toast,,, McVay is toast...Tomlin had enough time...

Browns just need to get all members of the team to execute their individual jobs...this is on the coaches...and management..and some of the players.....to be honest...but who really WGAS?...

If Watson is the Browns’ best chance to win, they have no chance to win.

Oh, he will uncork one amazing game or even two, but you will not get week to week consistency from him. Sad, because he had so much potential.

Watson was almost trying not to score a touchdown in 2 straight games, he is a bust, just historically bad
