There is an advantage to growing your own.

You tend to lose sight of that when processing and your hands feel like they want to fall off but there are advantages.

Just last week my neighbor’s steer was delivered to slaughter. 1150 lbs. I get half. Counting the price of the steer and slaughtering charges, I’m paying roughly $1450 for my half, to be delivered to my freezer next week. This is the fourth time we’ve done this since moving to rural Kentucky.

And yes, it is absolutely delicious - and we learned the quality of butchers can vary. We got us a good one...

BTW, though we got about 560 lbs, that includes bones, skin, etc. So we’re not getting 560 lbs of meat, but still, we’re getting quite a bit...
