There’s a misconception that Scotch whisky (specifically single-malt) isn’t affordable. And sure, there are plenty of long-aged, limited-release bottles that will set you back the equivalent of a mortgage payment. On the flip side, there are plenty of well-priced, accessible expressions just waiting to be added to your whisky collection.

It’s time to dive into what “affordable” means in the Scotch-whisky world. It doesn’t mean cheap, and it doesn’t mean bargain. It does mean that the bottle is reasonably inexpensive. To us, this means expressions that are less than $100.

Picked up a few bottles of single malt Scotch at Blair Athol distillery in Pitlochry several years back. Still have two saved two for a special occasion.

Laphroig reminded me of Anbesol toothache medicine. I was always partial to Glenmorangie.

Yeah, its good stuff, I purchased it when I toured the distillery in 2014 or so, I think it was something like US$75 a bottle at the time.

Save a lot of money by buying some cheap whiskey and macerate some cigar butts in it for a few days and then strain. Same nasty flavor but a whole lots cheaper. yer welcome.

The Gods of good spirits will not treat you kindly in hell. LOL. I like a good single malt but prefer Irish.

Have a good day friend.

Jura is a good whisky. Mild peat that disappears after first taste. I’m not a huge fan of peated whisky but enjoyed this mild wee dram.

Smokey Grouse blended. $30 a bottle. I like certain scotches. But can’t tell the difference between a $30 bottle and a $300 bottle. Under $30 I can tell definitely.
