I hike 13 miles a day for my profession. I encounter every kind of human known to existence. Interaction with people is a fact of reality, every minute of every day.
I am thinking about wearing a body cam.
My best girl says I could be you tube famous based on some of the stories I relate to her.
That too. Thx.
Cliff Clavin?
Go for it, who knows you might be an internet sensation. Be aware of the law as it may be illegal in your state to tape someone.
True, but only part of the equation. Using another person's likeness for commercial gain without their permission can be highly problematic. So, if he's interviewing people on the trail, or just recording their antics no issue. It's when those videos get posted to a monetized YouTube channel and the poster gets paid without the consent of the recorded third party there could, and inevitably will be, letters from lawyers.
In the US, as long as you are in/on a public way you can video everything around you without permission from anyone.
The rub comes in when you use that video for “commercial” purposes.
For example, if you come across my friends and me playing cornhole dressed as Vikings you can film it. But if you put it on line and make money…you better have a release form from everyone in the video.
Buy a GCR. Great body cam.
Your profession issss.....?
By people?
Kinky ...
;-)
Ty. What if my secretary edits/blurs any likeness? As suggested earlier in the thread? I think just the audio would be hilarious.
Is your employer the USPS?
I was a photojournalist for a while. We had to tread lightly because I worked on college campuses. So, the people I worked for had to run around and get releases before they could use the images in college publications (not student ones).
Blurring folks would be fine from the image point of view. If their voice is identifying…I would imagine the same constraints would apply.
In another world, I managed service people who spent all day dealing with the public. I would not be happy, as their boss, if they were taping my customers in order to “make fun of them.”
Now, if you are the union steward you should probably run this idea by your union lawyer. It might be misconstrued by your employer as some sort of “safety issue” and what if, in the end, they wanted all of your peers to wear body cams that would have to be activated all day long. I am pretty sure some of my old service guys spent more than an hour or so—once in a while—parked behind the local grocery store out of sight from the street. Taking a nap. I am pretty sure the Union would not want to deal with THAT. LOL.
>> it may be illegal in your state to tape someone
Even if you tape them kinda loosely so that you don’t cut off blood flow to their hands and feet?
Ty. Can I clip it on to my brim? Lol
And you never know…,some of them might like a little light bondage.
YouTube is full of videos where the creator records strangers and is paid for the video based on viewership. The creators do not have to have permission just because they get paid. No expectation of privacy in public.
Agree, Cat Lives Matter. So you’ve never been bitten by a cat?
My bitchy kitty Daisy bites me every day when I don’t do it her way.
Yeah well that bs scenario is already out of bounds anyway. I am position GPS every 10 seconds anyway. The days of napping or 2 martini lunches went out with the turn of the century management. Not pitching, just stating fact. The scanner has become every honest workers friend. No fear.
Not really! Watch a lot of Youtube and tell me that the filmer gets a release from a hundred people on a street corner for example.
