“EVs Still So Unpopular that Car Thieves Won’t Even Steal Them”

Brings up an interesting point - if an EV is stolen or just happens to ‘light up’, will your insurance force you to spend the money you get from them to buy another EV, or will you be able to buy a normal car?

(p.s., I know that Progressive will force you to buy an EV, as it’s a political thing to them)

How hard is it to steal a Tesla compared to ICE cars?

I've never owned a Tesla but I'd guess they have a bunch of smart features that would make stealing one difficult.

there’s no way to fence a tesla, I’m sure. not in the civilized world, at least. and they probably don’t have charges in haiti.

I heard it’s because the Tesla security system is programmed to start a thermal breakdown runaway conflagration if the car is stolen.

There was a car theft ring in Portland that specialized in stealing Teslas (they got busted).

My SIL owns a Tesla, and according to him the anti-theft features on the car are excellent. He can disable the car remotely if it was stolen!

I want a Tesla, but I can’t justify the cost for my use. Still just too expensive for a local beater.
Love the idea of overnight plug in for a days errands.
Maybe soon?

Guess what happens when you drive into a street flooded with salt water in Florida with an EV? Or in your garage that gets flooded with salt water? EV scooters burn up even quicker.

Supply and Demand is real or in the words of my somewhat criminal friend, “I am not going to steal a piece of Sh-t, if I can not sell it quickly at great profit due to my risk in stealing it.

Thus supply and demand and precise criminal logic shows us without doubt, EVs are a piece of SH-T.

It’s a lot easer to cut out and ICE Catalytic converter than the full battery pack of an EV/

As with anything else
worth stealing, the laws
of supply and demand come
into play. There’s not
enough supply out there
that would justify the risk
of 20 years in prison.
Older ICE vehicles are the
hot ticket as available
parts and sheetmetal are no
longer available. Just try
to find an all origonal
426 hemi powered car from the
late 60’s thats in great
shape and driveable. They’ll
run you more than any Tesla.
The Ford F-150 I believe,
still holds the record as the
most stolen vehicle in the
US, but the Toyota Camry
isn’t far behind.

There is a reason people don’t steal EVs it’s not the sale value. They are nearly impossible to steal without the fob or smartphone app. You cannot “hotwire” an Tesla. They are geofenced too. If my Model 3 moves without the fob or me using my digital smartphone key it bricks the car and sends an alert to me and Tesla. This is why they are not stolen they turn off if you somehow managed to get one to move in the first place. Even if you had my fob say you mugged me all I have to do is call Tesla and in seconds yup it’s a brick its not moving again and the cops have the GPS location and your face is all over the 360 and interior security cameras in sentinel mode so they saw you break in it.slam dunk felony charges and conviction. My lawyer locked his phone in the car which is also his key so he couldn’t get back in. Being a boomer he panicked we all got a chuckle out of it till I handed him my phone and said hey log in to my app with your login accept the code and pop the locks...he didn’t know his password for the app. That.meant a hour long call to Tesla for verification of identity then the popped the locks while he was standing next to it. You simply cannot steal a Tesla for long if at all. That’s why they are not stolen. People do take them via flatbed the only way to really get one and then rip out the modem before the cops can come to the GPS location and move it to a chop shop for the battery pack and motors. That Tesla is never running again without the mothership signal so its only good for parts. Chop.shops are an issue for ICE cars too luxury ICE cars get chopped up all the time.
