As the Los Angeles Lakers broke from their huddle, LeBron James and Bronny James walked onto the floor and into NBA history books.
The Jameses opened the second quarter of the Lakers’ 118-114 preseason loss to the Phoenix Suns, becoming the first father-son duo to play with one another in NBA history.
“Not real,” LeBron said postgame of his feelings as a father and player. “Still trying to get a little bit used to it, but pretty cool. It’s pretty cool for the both of us and especially for our family.”
Bronny said he was “pretty psyched” once he knew he would play with his dad, but added that he prepared as if it were a normal game. That said, he admitted it’s impossible to compartmentalize the situation and view his dad simply as a teammate.
“I’m always thinking about, ‘That’s my dad’ because that’s literally my dad,” Bronny said. “So I just go out there and, when I’m playing, he’s just my teammate. That’s all I’m thinking at that point.”
There was an extra layer to the moment: Sunday also marked Bronny’s 20th birthday. The Lakers celebrated him with a cake and cupcakes earlier in the day at the team hotel.
For LeBron, having that experience with his son on his birthday was special.
“For a father, it means everything,” LeBron said. “For someone who didn’t have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids and have influence on your son. Be able to have moments with your son. And ultimately, to be able to work with your son. I think that’s one of the greatest things that a father can ever hope for or wish for.”

Wow! That’s quite an accomplishment. A child’s ball doesn’t fall far from the hoop.

Good,,,,now can they both go away?
We will have to put up with this all year…and then a LeBron going away party all the next.
No thanks.
The selective breeding begun in 1809 continues to produce hands of superb quality. Thoroughbreds play for the NBA
Nonetheless, I wish the kid the best.
It’s a nice story.
Better than reading he was shot in a drive by or OD’d!!
Have a good one :)
I bet LaClown wishes he could take his son to Diddy Freak Off .
“Better than reading he was shot in a drive by or OD’d”
Not yet anyway.
I believe it was Howard Cosell who first talked about selective breeding for blacks to excel in sports.
Maybe it was Cosell but it was Jimmy the Greek who paid the price for talking about it.
The greatest aspect of it all is that the son’s career had nothing to do with any influence by his father....
/s
Cosell called a black player “a little monkey”.
You got that right.
LeBron is an entitled, pretentious douchebag, but speaking as a dad who was there for every minute of my son’s 12-year organized basketball career, I can understand the feelings of happiness and pride he would be having.
Unfortunately, the kid is only there because of his name. If his name was Bronny Smith, his 4 point per game and 35 percent shooting stats for a below-average college team would only allow him in an NBA arena if he bought a ticket.
The kid should have been allowed to spend a couple more years in college improving his game, but they had to force the issue to get him in the league before dad retired.
I hope the young man is eventually able to succeed on his own merits.
I despise the Lakers in general, but with LeBron, I have even less.
Saw recently where the kid actually said that - truly, a chip off the old block.
It’s been done. Mark, Marty and Gordie Howe.
I know, I know…
When I watch LeBron against any team other than the Celtics, I am amazed by his talent. As soon as he steps on the parquet….he becomes a flopping, whiney, bum. LOL
At least the WWE knows what it is...the NBA is a joke of a league that thinks it’s serious.
