I think many of us come here for some fellowship with like minded conservative allies and it makes us happy to see that we are not alone.
But, over the years I have noticed something that seems amiss to me, which is the lack of responses to people who have expressed their opinion.
Many is the time that I see a comment to which no one has replied; a situation in which no one responds to a Freeper who has expressed an opinion.
I think most, if not all of us, would likely enjoy an acknowledgement that people have read our comment and agree with it, or even that people have read it and disagree with it! (So that we can have an argument, which is something we contrarians tend to enjoy! :) )
I urge people to respond to comments from other Freepers, especially if that comment is directed at you. I encourage Freepers to acknowledge the people who have posted a message to you, because we all want to believe our opinions matter and are worthy of consideration.
At the very least give them a "+1" (which means "UpVote") to indicate you've read their comment and agree with it. A more thoughtful reply is even better!
Let people know you care what they think and are not indifferent to their existence.
Not only should this boost the amount of traffic on Free Republic, it should encourage a happier more pleasant experience for all participants. It may even lead to more people wanting to join Free Republic!
I was gonna say, "A lot of them have died."
I've known several. "Windflier" comes to mind.
Also, I think they represented an older, more civil generation. They hadn't become so cynical as many of us who are still here.
:)
It’s a lot safer to do now than it was during the reign of Dubya the Fraudulent. Just ask wardaddy, who was unafraid to challenge the politically correct amnesty pushers of the GOP.
Sometimes when I see some of the stuff he says, I think he must clank when he walks.
Thank you.
Yes, a like button would be nice...
I don’t post unless I think it will add something because I feel like additional posts take up space on servers. Otherwise I would thank people and 👍 people, etc., with much more abandon!
My apologies to all the people whose posts I appreciated and didn’t respond to and for the one person who DMed me and I didn’t notice for like 18 months and so did not respond....
It does take up more space on servers, but nowadays memory storage is really really cheap, and it is no longer the sort of problem it once was.
On the other hand, leaving a message increases the traffic for the website, and many websites are ranked in value based on how much traffic they get.
More traffic means the website is more valuable, and has greater reach.
Now Free Republic doesn't advertise or allow advertising, but having as large of traffic numbers as are possible gives it more clout and possibly gets more people to pay attention to it.
So go ahead and leave messages! As many as you like!
-"Also, I think they represented an older, more civil generation. They hadn't become so cynical as many of us who are still here."-
Maybe so, but people in their elder years can become very cynical sometimes.
Yet, some people can have a civil discussion, no matter what age they are, no matter what's happening in the world.
So, it isn’t my imagination.
That’s the way I feel…just have a lot on my plate that keeps me from offering my two cents. But I thank you for the encouragement.
The signs of the times.

Sorry - late to the “party”!
There’s just a group of FReepers that ill behaved. The prime examples are:
1) Russia - Ukraine War threads. Threats, physical threats, etc
2) When someone dies, it’s due to the COVID-19 vax unless proven otherwise
There’s obviously more.
I chalk up such conduct as a result of upbringing, or perhaps ignorance, willful ignorance or lack of intellect.
It’s always been “spicy” on FR. But there are a few nasty posters who want an echo chamber and are willing to get nasty to achieve that goal.
This is great; thanks for explaining about the memory!

I mentioned to someone else earlier in the thread that we have all been dealing with a bunch of political setbacks, for quite a long time, and people want to lash out.
This doesn't excuse some of them for going too far, and it is like you said, they haven't been raised properly regarding civility with others.
