I think many of us come here for some fellowship with like minded conservative allies and it makes us happy to see that we are not alone.
But, over the years I have noticed something that seems amiss to me, which is the lack of responses to people who have expressed their opinion.
Many is the time that I see a comment to which no one has replied; a situation in which no one responds to a Freeper who has expressed an opinion.
I think most, if not all of us, would likely enjoy an acknowledgement that people have read our comment and agree with it, or even that people have read it and disagree with it! (So that we can have an argument, which is something we contrarians tend to enjoy! :) )
I urge people to respond to comments from other Freepers, especially if that comment is directed at you. I encourage Freepers to acknowledge the people who have posted a message to you, because we all want to believe our opinions matter and are worthy of consideration.
At the very least give them a "+1" (which means "UpVote") to indicate you've read their comment and agree with it. A more thoughtful reply is even better!
Let people know you care what they think and are not indifferent to their existence.
Not only should this boost the amount of traffic on Free Republic, it should encourage a happier more pleasant experience for all participants. It may even lead to more people wanting to join Free Republic!
That’s gross!
It occurs to me that acknowledging they wrote something and then offering no further comment on it would likely deny these sorts of people exactly what they crave.
I cannot think of any human interaction that cannot be improved with humor. Well, except perhaps bad news from your Doctor.
Obviously you are earnest, (not Earnest) so I will propose that in answer to your #1: some FReepers will not answer because they do not have the specific information or expertise to post a helpful reply (I exclude prayer requests from this comment).
And to these, we ought to be especially kind. :)
:)
I eventually learned that "common sense" is not quite so common as it once was.
I’d be happy with a few less “your opinion is stupid” posts.
I could stand to have a few more. I like to argue. :)
OK, you Pass.
I'm afraid I might miss some in this thread. I've "talked the talk", now I have to make sure I "walk the walk."
I should have thought of this before I opened my big mouth. :)
My wife has been urging me to get hearing aids. This is the best reason for doing that that I have seen so far! :)
Now you're getting attacked for having a different opinion.
We're all on the same side. Some of us are libertarians. Many of us are conservatives. We do not agree on everything. That's okay.
As I and others have noted earlier in the thread, a lot of us are unhappy with what has been happening nationally, and some of us feel the need to lash out in our despondency.
I would like to believe that as the news improves, so will our moods, and some of the meanness will evaporate.
We are unhappy because we see ourselves and the things we believe in under assault from a dictatorial and socialist type government, despite all the efforts we have put in over the years to prevent this from happening.
I think November 5th will either lighten the mood, or make it worse. Hopefully things will get better after November.
Ha! You got me. That's pretty funny.
Watching? Nah, i'd rather been in the thick of it myself!
You don’t have to respond to this! Aack!
Oh, sorry. Should I take it back?
:)
Especially with Russo-Ukrainian threads.
For those who take it so personally, I suspect there may be some ancestral connections involved in this.
I feel bad for both the Russians and the Ukrainians. This war is a horrible tragedy for them both, and it has already greatly damaged their ability to rebuild their populations in the future.
14.4k dial up modems. We were moving. LOL
Brother then!
And you better watch out regarding that looking in the mirror stuff, you don't want that "tranny bug" to sneak up on you and makes you think about wearing skirts. :)
I’ll never forget that sound.
sometimes it deserves a like, no further explanation needed
Also, be kind your web-footed friends. Including platypuses.

Well, it was pretty cool back then; even if it seems primitive now.
“sometimes it deserves a like, no further explanation needed”
Maybe I’m worried that a ‘like’ would be over-used and we’d be talking about posts going viral.
