Floating and idea that I hope, at some point, gets some traction. Verbiage, legalese and examples are rough at best and should be peer reviewed for accuracy and discussion...but you get the point. If it's a crime to lie to a LEO or court, it should be a WORSE crime to lie to attain political office.

I'm thinking Linda, Obama, Xlintons, Harris and Biden, but ESPECIALLY WALZ with his outrageous, habitual and unbridled lies from his son's experience with active shooters, to China visits to J6er's actions. This pure perjury to the public must stop.

Bad idea. Who gets to say what is and isn’t a lie? If this law were in place right now, for example, Trump would undoubtedly have already been convicted under it. The DOJ is controlled by Dems, and they have declared that the 2020 election was absolutely fair and clean. Trump has claimed otherwise — they would consider that to be a lie and would most certainly have prosecuted and likely have convicted him.

I’ll keep the First Amendment the way it is, thank you very much. If a politician slanders someone, they can be held liable in a civil suit, but criminalizing free speech is not a good idea.

Sounds like a good idea, but it also sounds like a First Amendment rights issue. What is needed is the press to act like they should act, and doing journalism to keep the politicians honest.

Thank goodness for the internet in that regard. Sure there are probably more lies than ever, but there is also the truth.

RABID LIES and Perjury to the public. So many lies the truth cannot be recognized.

350,000,000 million counts of perjury and offense.

it’s got nothing to do with the first amendment.

Perjury is a crime.

Whether its performed from a person to the court, or a person to the public for the purpose of attaining office. Or by a person in office to the public.

Perjury is a crime.

The fourth estate used to moderate such things before becoming the fifth column. That’s why the media have failed America more than career politicians, as we expect the latter to be self-serving filth.

Good grief. That's a Democrat kooky unconstitutional idea.

Educate people to always be curious and very skeptical .

It's so easy now to do your research.

One man's lie is another man's truth.

> It is criminal to attempt to attain, or attain, public office while lying to the public for the purpose of attaining that office. <

And who would determine exactly what a lie is? A jury in a liberal stronghold would. And so anything a Republican says would become a criminal act.

Meanwhile, a bold DA in a red state would start indicting Democrats. The whole country would devolve into a mess of show trials.

So on balance, this is a bad idea. It’s the job of the press to expose the lies by politicians. Our problem is not the lack of new laws. Our problem is a biased mainstream press. That’s the difficult nut we’ve got to crack.

Why not HOT tar and feathers.
Or, did you mean “Coal tar?” If there is such a thing.
Subjects or citizens have been lied to since this whole thing started

It is for us to investigate or sit and stew.

Govt made it a crime for the peons to lie to govt and their agents.

However, its not a crime for govt and their agents to lie to the peons.

Not exactly what the Founders intended in terms or dynamic or overall civility.

"Our problem is a biased mainstream press."

It is a politically biased mainstream press with no morals or moral code "The ends justify the means"

I don’t think so. See my post 9.

Perjury should go both ways. IF you are attempting to gain a position in government you’ve GOT to not tell known lies.

Something is broke here and needs fixin. Either its from the emitting end, like I presented here, or the receiving end, by limiting the people who vote by an intellectual discernment test.

A society cannot flourish, much less function on false concepts and lies.
