Vanity: Where to buy large quantities of medication

Does anyone know where a person can purchase large quantities of medications? Following thyroid cancer treatment 10 years ago I need synthroid and I would like to be able to have more than a monthly refill. Thanks.

I had no problem getting my BP and cholesterol meds on 90 day refill. Had that for years.

How long is thyroid medicine shelf stable?

I keep hearing that has a very short shelf life and shouldn’t be good after more than a year out.

Is there some way of storing it that can extend it?

I’m on some at a very low dose, just borderline underactive, and for some reason, I am ending up with more than I need. I only forget to take it on occasion, but if what you say is true, then missing one day a week as a part of a planned stock up could work, although I realize YOU cannot technically recommend that.

So I’m not asking you to suggest that, but am more curious about shelf stabilbity.

My PCP says they can no longer hand out paper scripts. It’s all electronic to the pharmacy. Which hamstrings you for sources outside the US - which, no doubt, is the intent.

Almost all my scrips are 90 day supply. Wonder how the shipping strike will affect supply. Use to be the town down the road, made meds (Whitehall) but no longer.

Go to a border town with Mexico. Go across and find the pharmacia. Brownsville is a good option, or a ross from El Paso, etc.

We are Tricare Life, except scheduled drugs, or an antibiotic, all our scripts are 90 days. Get the Real Synthroid not the Generic. Even the Military won’t use the generic. Hair loss is first sign of a generic, they are different colors too. I take two 100mcg Synthroid which are yellow. The 200mcg is BLUELAKE DYE and I don’t tolerate it.

Most ENDOS will do 90 days. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

Good info. Fired my last ENDO, he kept my dose to low, Military changed companies, the Blue Lake dye was a nightmare. New Primary partners with his ENDO wife. Trial periods to up dose. 200 mcg has been accurate for a year now as long as he does the 2, 100mcg yellow.

My A1C is now stable at 6. At 76 those are good readings, lost 30 lbs too changed to cleaner eating, reading labels.

But I’d be careful of schedule stuff like pain meds and benzodiazepines

Ask your drug store. Simple stuff like blood pressure and blood thinners can be extended without much hassle. Opioids are highly regulated and have to be confirmed by the doc..

FDA mandates ONE year label expiration date.

In Reality Some drugs can maintain potency for DECADES.
