" it’s not octopi?" No, it IS NOT. We take "octopus" from the Greek "oktopus." Using the "I" ending to make plurals is a Latin thing. You don't use Latin's rules of pluralization to make plurals of a Greek noun.

Being Greek and not Latin, the plural is octopodes.

Yes it is! Lately I’ve been seeing more writers using the incorrect
octopus over the correct
octopi.
I was going to point it out if someone else didn’t.
