Word Salad: What It Is and Why It Happens

Word salad is a term used to describe a confused or meaningless mixture of words and phrases when speaking.1 Word salads can be found in various contexts but are especially common among people with certain mental health conditions or neurological disorders such as schizophrenia ordementia.

Those affected may struggle to communicate their thoughts coherently, leading to sentences that lack logical structure, contain some nonsensical words and phrases, and make little sense overall. Word salads are often accompanied by other symptoms related to the underlying illness and can cause distress for both the speaker and those around them.

She is a mixed up parrot. She repeats things over and over until she is a boring parrot.

Add the nervous laugh to her communications and it becomes someone coming back from the bar, talks like a word salad bar.

I keep picturing her in a conversation with another world leader.

BIBI would probably refuse to even meet with her.

Yes, she is stupid.
But, she is also lazy. As VP she couldn’t answer basic questions because she refused to read the briefings.

So, she was unprepared and stupid.

Interesting article, but it leaves out an important group.

Politicians, political spokesthings, corporate PR flunkies, fuzzy-studies professors, and the like emit word-salad for different reasons.

1) They are ignorant or stupid, know nothing about the topic at hand, but feel required to give a response to a questions. As a result, they babble incoherently for a while uttering words that seem related to the topic at hand but actually convey no meaning.

2) They’re lying. They may be covering up wrongdoing, they may be trying to obfuscate policies and practices of which the audience would not approve, they may wish not to be pinned down to any particular policy or practice.

3) Other?

But they’re not insane ... they’re being dishonest.

I don’t know what makes a brain work like that.

IMO ...

The phenomenon you describe derives from more than cause:

1) The speaker has not learned to organize her (usually, but sometimes his) thoughts and therefore rambles while trying to assemble a coherent statement.

2) The speaker really knows nothing about the topic at hand, but doesn't want to admit ignorance.

3) The speaker lacks self-confidence, and is unwilling or unable to make a direct concise statement.

4) The speaker is being deceptive.

IMO, (1) above covers the majority of instances that I have personally observed. It indicates abject failure on the part of elementary schools.

Organized thought requires one to organize your thoughts so that they are organized.

In Komrade Kamala's case, I think she's not very bright, she doesn't know how to organize her thoughts, and she's being deceptive. We know from her history that she's a hard-core communist. If she were honest, she'd sound like a combination of The Communist Manifesto, the Quotations from Chairman Mao, and the editorial page of The Daily Worker.

And that wouldn't play in Peoria.

This is the key to her problems. She is trying to be something she is not, and to do that you must be an accomplished actor and quite bright and loquacious (in a sociopathic way). We’ve all seen politicians who can do this. She can not.

She didn’t struggle and achieve through hard work and much time honing a talent. Hers is a life of short-cuts and physical quid pro quo.

She has to be hauled over the finish line by others more capable and talented.

You could do it if you just understood the joy of word salad.

When you add tomatoes you can move from the past into a glorious future.

Question to Kamala: Ms. Harris, what will you do about the millions of illegals your administration allowed to cross our borders and who remain undocumented here in America?

Answer: When I was a little girl there was a Latin family who lived nearby. They came from another country. Their family always grew a lovely garden with lots of vegetables. Mostly I loved the lettuce because, you know, I love salad and most salads have lettuce in them. Some have other things like onions, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and olives. My neighbors didn’t grow olives though, so the salads they made from their garden never had olives in them.

They’d invite my family over for dinner and we always had fun conversations. We talked a lot and we even talked while eating our salads, so sometimes it was hard to understand one another. You know, we’d take a bite, say a word, and forget what we were saying because the salad was just so yummy!

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Billy Madison
