From burger behemoths to international pizza joints, F&W rounds up the world's largest fast food chains.
McDonald's
The burger behemoth tops the list over Subway by a few hundred stores worldwide. While the Big Mac is ubiquitous in the United States, in Europe the chain also sells the Big Rösti for a limited time each year — beef patty, hash brown patty, Emmentaler cheese, and bacon on an onion-flavored bun.

No, man. They don’t use pounds in Europe. No one knows what the f a pound is, much less a quarter of one.
All close!?!
.
I’d Starve.
In the world’s largest list how did they miss China’s
Cat-Fil-A and Bat-King Wet Buffet?
Their coated spicy chicken feet franchise Forbidden Cluckee’s is popular at airports and illegal dog fight pits in China but admittedly not as popular around out regions.
heart attack in a sack.
Yes, I know they use the metric system in Europe. But I thought perhaps they used the American name just because McDonald’s originated in the US. (The chain, that is...the name originated in Scotland.)
“Big Rösti”
The very best Big Rösti my wife and I ever had was in the mountain huts in the Swiss Alps. There’s nothing like a vigorous hike in the Alps and then arriving at a mountain hut way back in the mountains for hot eggs & rösti
We used to love Popeye’s cajun fried chicken until they changed the recipe to make it milder... or at least the independently owned ones changed we used to frequent changed their recipe.
XD XD.
Just don’t ask what they call a Whopper... I didn’t go in to Burger King.
Never eat at any. Not food if it means “fast.” Food, good food, takes time to prepare. Let them thrive, but not an my money.
I remember when a steak sandwich at Sizzler was $1.59.
That was a FRIDAY NIGHT TREAT FOR ME IN LOS ANGELES.

Oh yeah, the Chinese love KFC. I was there on a business trip in early 2001. Our Chinese hosts were so excited to take us to a KFC in Zhangjiagang for lunch. It did taste just like KFC at home, but the locals seemed to like a hot orange juice drink they sold there. That sounded kind of awful, so I got a Coke.
I remember Popeye’s in the early/mid ‘80’s in VA being much spicier. Same for KFC spicy at that time in WA.
Don’t the Japanese eat KFC for Christmas?
My all-time favorite was Burger King’s Yumbos - ham & cheese. They discontinued these. But 40 years later they brought them back - I did not know that until today.
In German-speaking countries like Germany and Austria, a quarter-pounder is known as a Hamburger Royal.
A royal with cheese.
Yes they do. And considering that the country is either Buddhist or Shinto I find it amusing that they celebrate it at all.
