Less than 12 hours after he was convicted of the murder of Irene Graves, on February 16, 1999, Freddie Owens killed a fellow prisoner while he was in prison.
His sentence of Death seems to have been determined after the second killing. The judge realized what kind of person he was.

This whole execution thing in America as evolved into some sort of grotesque ritual. There is nothing nice about conducting capital punishment and there is no way to make it “nice”. Get real, man up and do the high speed lead injection, quick, effective and cheap...

Kills Irene the store clerk - didn’t say if he finished that trial and what his sentence would have been. But it is implied that it wouldn’t have been put to death. But for the other inmate he was put to death.
