It was a fleeting moment, but one that captured Mr. Trump’s reluctance to part ways with the final explosive act of his presidency, even in a general election in which it offers little political upside.

For years, Mr. Trump has helped craft an alternate history of that day, one in which the violent attack was a “love fest,” the jailed rioters were “hostages” and their prosecution was a part of a larger story of persecution — of both Mr. Trump and his supporters — that has been at the core of his argument for a return to the presidency.

But as he courts voters beyond his loyal base ahead of the November election, he and his campaign have engaged in an awkward push and pull over how closely to associate with the riot’s legacy. A recording of jailed Jan. 6 defendants singing the national anthem no longer plays at his rallies. When some defendants, including a man whom federal prosecutors have described as a “white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer,” gathered at Mr. Trump’s Bedminster golf club for a fund-raiser, the former president, who has attended similaWEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he is skeptical the federal government will appropriately handle the investigation into the apparent assassination attempt against former president Donald Trump, so he has assigned state officers to “take the lead” and do their own work on the case.

He also has directed the statewide prosecutor — who usually takes cases involving drugs, cyber fraud, human trafficking and other organized crimes that cross multiple counties — to bring charges against the man suspected of pointing a gun through a fence at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club on Sunday.

Simply because shots were fired, Florida probably has some constitutional justification (imo) to investigate incident under the Constitution's Article IV, Section 4 (4.4) in the context of domestic violence. Likewise for previous assassination attempt.

"Article IV, Section 4 (4.4): The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence [emphases added]."

Other than Supreme Court ultimately stopping a state investigation, I'm not familiar with any federal law reasonably based on an express constitutional power that would give the feds the power to order a state to stop such an investigation. Insights welcome.

In fact, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and 18 U.S. Code § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law allows for both state and federal actors to be criminal suspects imo.

Next, since Congress and renegade states have repeatedly proven that they are enemies of the people imo, it is now up to Democratic and Republican Trump supporters to effectively "impeach and remove" ALL (exceptions?) state and federal lawmakers and executives in November.

In fact, it's up to us Trump supporters to take the first MAJOR step in draining the swamp by supporting hopeful Trump 47 with a new, Constitution-respecting Congress, new state lawmakers too, not only so that he will not be a lame duck president from the first day of his second term, but will support him to quickly finish draining the swamp.

Finally, let's not allow the anti-Trump media try to fade our memories of what we witnessed on July 13.
