The stage is set for what has been referred to as the “Oscars of Spirit Competitions.” Back in April, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition convened for its annual multi-day judging. Since then, we’ve seen a steady rollout of all the Double Gold winners minted during that time. To receive the honor, multiple judges must score an expression 90-or-higher out of 100. There have been hundreds of examples across a dozen spirit categories. But now it’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty.
We’ve been waiting patiently for the “Best In Show,” the absolute top title amongst all 2024 spirits entries. It will finally be revealed on the weekend of October 5th in SF at a ticketed event called Top Shelf. We’ve got your sneak peek at that industry extravaganza—including how to land yourself a seat, and an exclusive preview of the finalists for that coveted Best In Show crown, which are revealed at a grand gala on the second evening.
In the running for top spirit of the year are five separate expressions of single malt scotch. The distilleries behind each one are entirely familiar to category enthusiasts, with some of the releases enjoying regular placement on US liquor store shelves. A couple of the others—not so much.

One summer in the ‘80’s got a little crazy with Pinch and a splash....had to set it down.
He could do ads for that stuff.
You're correct. Scotch must be distilled in Scotland. But Japanese whisky techniques basically came directly from Scotland.
Methinks that with your recent posts about the best alcoholic beverages that you are preparing us for Kamala Harris being our new President because of massive cheating by non-citizens voting for her.
Thanks in advance for doing this research so I can remain inebriated for four long years of listening to President Cackler.
Yeah, what’s up with that? I’m a Lagavulin guy myself
I hope not!
I am equally divided between Lagavulin and Laphroig. But there is nothing I would rather have than one of those.
Agree, but for me Laphroig runs a very close 2nd. It really boils down to a matter of personal taste.
The correct answer is Oban.
I want you to know that I appreciate your labors in finding and posting many good and informative articles to help keep Free Republic forum alive and lively.
However in saying this, I also have a complaint that i wish you might see a need to make a change in one area of your effort. I have noticed that you have posted a spate of articles that feature the promotion of products of the liquor, wine, and beer/ale-type industries.
While my perception is that on the Free Republic forum the mention of such ethanol-based products must be tolerated in articles posted that are of a more general nature, as well as in the discussions that follow, that might not be wanted on FR when the central issue is about approving such products and esteeming their use.
So in contrast, I believe the focus of these of your recent articles has been the promotion of the liquor industry and specifically named products of it in such a way that their character can be considered a very blatant sales pitch to increase the ethanol-dependent business, and with it tge emphasis necessarily influences the undesirable advance of alcoholism.
Having been a while ago justifiably scored by the mental health clinicians as a problematic heavy drinker, losing my marriage by the accompanying loss of mutual faithfulness, and suffering from the death of a son from the effects of it in his early adulthood, my withdrawal from that kind of life has been total and rejecting of it for over forty years now.
Hence here I want to call you out for the sin of pretending to post such articles as being the normal fare backed by the standards of this conservative, God-fearing moral community.
I beg you to stop posting these articles that are so obviously dedicated to the increased consumption of the toxin ethanol as being a widely-approved recreational use of it in accepted social behavior, a medium that has resulted in much of the fatalities and destroyed families because of the degraded decadent cultural results evident in a culture that does not suppress its use, along with other deadly demeaning drugs so disapproved, such posts being inappropriate for a conservative family audience.
On this basis I appeal to the owners of this forum and its administrators to reject the posting of this kind of reading fare as being material that they can support.
Going forward, I am hoping that even as they would decide to place the glorifying of intoxicating beverages together with the other articles that promote beliefs and practices that tear down a moral society and its government, as did our Founders who were attempting to set up a Godly Constitutional heritage, in which some liberties must be restricted to preserve that way of life.
Respectfully,

Who likes water anyways?
Instead Forbes goes for off-brands in whiseky just as much as politics. They have no redeeming qualities.
The only core value commanding the attention of Forbes stock owners is profitability that the articles add to their holding.
My fellow Freeper, I think you missed why I made a request concerning the flogging of these booze articles to cease; to wit, I think that the conservative Free Republic Forum should deny the use of these member-supported pages for the direct open boldly promotional advertisement of any intoxicating beverages.
That is not the purpose nor the business of this forum., but the plethora of this and prior articles posted by one lone FR participant have recently b egun and blossomed in number. Up to now, in this month at least 17 articles promoting the interests of the alcoholic industry have been p;aced here by one single entity (syndicate?) bearing the "ChicagoConservative27" username.
I don't think the nature of these topics add to the quality image of the Free Republic forum, or benefits many of the FR supporters
