Heartwarming Tales of Terrorists Blowing Themselves Up
RedState ^ | 9/17/2024 | Jim Thompson

We’ve recently read some heartwarming stories concerning terrorists in Lebanon being separated from their mortal coils as they were blown up by their own pagers. Israel had no comment other than (I'm guessing) Mossad agents giving each other high-fives for a job well done.

RedState's Susie Moore wrote:

I'm not sure who had exploding pagers on their Bingo cards for 2024, but why not? As Bonchie reported earlier:

In one of the most unbelievable developments of 2024, Israel somehow hacked into the pagers and cell phones of Hezbollah fighters and caused them to explode. News of hundreds of injuries, including dismemberments broke on Tuesday morning. Shortly after, videos of devices blowing up began to circulate.

Israel can’t admit to blowing up terrorists using pagers, but everyone knows it wasn’t lithium batteries that just all-of-sudden blew up at the same time. It was carried out by a nation-state intent on ending bad guys. If they weren't ended, they at least lost the use of some appendages. Technology has been used to great effect, eliminating terrorists or terror infrastructure. In 2021, Operation Olympic Games destroyed a cluster of Iranian centrifuges used, no doubt, to forward Iran’s nuclear bomb program. It was a cyber bug planted by Israel and the U.S. Other terror plots were foiled, not by sophisticated logic bombs or technology but by just dumb luck – and I mean dumb. As in, terrorists can be really dumb.

Eight years ago, Sevdet Ramadan Besim decided he was going stuff the pouches of kangaroos with explosives, then paint them in Islamic State colors. Apparently he thought the 'roos would just sit there compliantly. He intended to set them loose on the streets of Melbourne. No, seriously, Besim thought that he could corral kangaroos and maybe convince them to jihad themselves for the “cause.” He got caught before any kangaroo could beat him senseless and disembowel him. But my favorite feel-good dumb terrorist story happened 12 years ago in Bangkok, Thailand.

Three Iranian nationals were plotting an attack on Israeli diplomats using “sticky bombs.” The botched plot started botching when the rented apartment of three inept terrorists went...“boom!”

In March 2012, the Bangkok neighborhood shook when the apartment exploded, and three bloodied men staggered out of the building. The terrorists (who I will code-name Manny Moe and Curly) went in different directions. Saied Morad (code-name Curly because his hair was likely curled from the blast) was a 28-year-old Iranian [former] soldier. Curly was bleeding from his ears to his feet. He was carrying what witnesses described as a backpack and two black boxes. The black boxes were devices with green wires sticking out of them. Bloody Curly tried to hail a cab. The cab driver, seeing a bloody man who was perhaps still smoking from the apartment blast, refused to stop for Curly’s hail. In response, Curly tossed a bomb at the cabbie. Kaboom!

Curly had one bomb left. As the police closed in, he tried to toss his last bomb at the cops. Fortunately, his sticky bomb got stuck on something, and it boomeranged back at Curly and blew up, with the blast removing Curly’s legs from the rest of his body. It also removed his right eye. The police arrested what was left of Curly. Unfortunately for Curly, he didn’t get his 72 virgins on that fateful day. He survived. Curly appeared in court missing his legs and right eyeball, but he was still able to raise a defiant fist in the air. His defense was classic: “I had no idea where the bombs came from." He was shocked, shocked to find bombs in the cupboard. Curly claimed he had opened the kitchen cabinet and instead of falafels, he found...bombs. RUN! he told Manny and Moe. Curly took the brunt of the bomb blast. Unlike Curly's legs, his defense didn't fly. He was convicted and sentenced to 28 years in prison. Manny and Moe were also arrested and sent to prison.

The story of Manny Moe and Curly doesn’t have a completely feel-good happy ending. All three were repatriated - sent back to Iran in exchange for an Australian woman who Iran had managed to nab and arrest on trumped-up charges.

One hopes that Israel continues to “allegedly” blow up terrorists using the terrorists’ own pagers. One hopes that Iran continues to send dumb terrorists out into the wild, only to manage to blow themselves up or manage, as was the case for Curly, to separate himself from his legs and eyeball.

Question -— Have there been any instances of this happening to anyone in the US? Surely, there are Hezbollah agents here. I haven’t seen any accounts of it happening here.

...while knowingly refusing to ensure...

I dont think thats a warfare/lawfare requirement. Sounds like you are creating your own set a rules. You would have to convince a jury or commission that it was negligent use of lethal force. I think it could easily be argued that this 'strategy' saved countless Israeli lives (soldiers and civilians) from Hezbollah attacks.

“ It’s the same battery type, which you said cannot explode.

Obviously, you were wrong.”
**************************************************

You must have meant your comment to be directed to someone else, I didn’t say lithium batteries can’t ‘explode’ into flames. The large battery thing being carried into the elevator was far, far larger than a personal beeper and was carried by some kind of handle that would have isolated the guy’s hand from the obviously very hot battery as it got hotter and hotter before reaching a critical temperature. Those small beepers almost certainly each contained a small amount of VERY powerful plastic explosive along with a specially designed micro-detonator that could be remotely triggered.

Ha ha. It certainly doesn’t bother the terrorists if there are innocents wounded or killed; in fact, they count on it. War is hell, I’m told. There is always collateral damage, but from the videos I’ve seen, it’s only the terrorists with pagers in their pockets who are getting hurt. Save your pity for the true victims, the Israelis.

it’s that the targeters didn’t ensure that the devices were only held by terrorists...

You don’t know that.

I was originally thinking they managed to sneak a small amount of Semtex into their devices but what if there is a way you can send a signal that will make the battery overheat and blow up?

If you short a fully charged lithium battery it will almost certainly blow up. But I would doubt that you could count on it killing the person holding or wearing it.

You would have to add a circuit to the pager that shorted the battery and have some programing that closed that circuit when it got a page from a specific number.

You might be able to use the battery as a detonator to a small Semtex charge to make it more deadly.

Or just using someone else phone. Or a burner that you promptly stick in someone else pocket or toss in the back of a truck passing by.

Just real unlikely.

By your standards one could not make any attack on anyone.

My standards? My standards? Just sit through one single briefing by a JAG officer on the Laws of Armed Conflict. There's a reason anyone under U.S. jurisdiction would have refused to set this up and carried it out because they know they'd be charged for any innocent deaths.

A drone strike from your president Biden blew up all sorts of innocent people in Biden’s efforts to save face after his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

And he should be charged for that crime. Where have I said "Jao Bai-din did it, so they should be also allowed to."?

Any bombing risks collateral damage.

Any legitimate bombing requires confirmation of the target. "Do you have a visual on the target?"

Any shooting does, too. When your hero shot at Trump in PA, he shot and killed a fireman. I bet you are OK with that.

Just wow. Your projection is off the charts. You read something you didn't agree with and you lash out like a lunatic. You actually called Trump's attempted assassin my "hero". Get bent. I have stated that innocent lives are not to be put at risk. You, in your disturbed response, somehow state that I'd be "OK" with not one, not two, but thousands of innocent people at a rally being put at risk? You need help. Your bias and mental illness is spilling right out of you.

Your double standard for Jews killing terrorists is noted.

Double standard? What double standard? I've stated the exact opposite. The targeters should be held to the same standard as anyone else - if you can't confirm the target and ensure innocent lives are not at risk, you can't blindly detonate an explosive. YOU are the one pushing the double standard. If terrorists had done the same, you'd be screaming. You also assume that everyone killed was a terrorist. As I've stated in this thread, anyone could have been holding the device or standing near the owner of it. Women, children, EMTs, doctors, - I even mentioned someone innocently pumping gas. Remember that the next time someone is carrying a mobile phone when pumping gas next to you at the station.

No innocents hang with terrorist murderers.

Just wow. You're certain that everyone you pass each day isn't a terrorist.

I hope you're not shopping, commuting, dining, or getting gas near one of these 400 ISIS linked individuals who are here in the United States:

https://www.nbcnews.com/investigations/dhs-identifies-400-migrants-brought-us-isis-linked-human-smuggling-rcna158777

And nowhere near any of these either:

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/fbi-director-warns-dangerous-individuals-coming-southern-border/story?id=108024830

I hope no one in your family goes to school with someone like the Tsarnev brothers because being in the vicinity of someone like them voids any right they have to not be targeted by someone going after terrorists.

I agree with you: killing, injuring civilians is wrong - and Calley and his platoon were war criminals and they stained our honor, all of us who fought to protect the South Vietnamese.

In defense of the Israelis in this case, the bombs they used were apparently very small - that video that Nateman posted shows that it was a very small charge - like about an ounce or less of A-5 - and a couple of young men standing near the victim weren’t injured.

In war, it’s hard to get less indiscriminate than that - and it’s hard to argue that Hezbollah operatives shouldn’t be attacked.

Ha ha. It certainly doesn’t bother the terrorists if there are innocents wounded or killed; in fact, they count on it.

So, now we're adopting terrorists' values? devaluing innocent lives because they do?

Following that logic, Westerners should start sodomizing sheep too.

This article assumes that all who were injured were terrorists and that no innocent bystanders were injured as well.

Why would you assume anyone but terrorists were injured? I'm pretty sure they knew their targets or else they would not have been able to activate their pagers.

Pagers are usually coded for an individual, but you can set them up to do a group call. Pretty sure anyone in that group call would have to be a terrorist.

Why would you have a group call for terrorists, and then add people unrelated to that activity? It's just a security leak.

No. It makes sense that everyone injured or killed was Hezbollah.

Don't take my word for it. Watch the videos from store cameras. Those terrorists could have been standing next to shoppers who could have been anyone.

The numbers are coming in and it looks good.

Lebanese authorities raise death toll in pager blasts to 11, say 4,000 injured
By Emanuel Fabian Follow, Today, 10:43 pm
Lebanon's health ministry updates the death toll in the pager explosions to 11.

Another 4,000 are wounded, including 400 in critical condition, according to ministry numbers cited by Arabic-language media.

"It wasn't a phone, it was a pager, and there was no guarantee that the person holding the pager was the intended target nor where they were standing when it detonated. Remember that the next time you're on an airplane at 35,000 feet. "I mean it's all good as long as we thought the guy who was holding the device was a baddie."

Your comment reads like it was written by a leftie cat lady. You would rather that Israel dropped 4000 bombs on Lebanon killing and maiming far more innocents? Go back down your hole.

Any one of those holding the device, guilty or not, could have been holding a child or filling a car with gasoline.

If you weigh that possibility over the value of the targets killed or injured, it is well worth the risk.

People terrorists associate with are not friends of Israel. "Innocent" becomes a question of degree.

Are "innocent" people feeding terrorists? Providing them with shelter? Comforting them?

Very blurred line between terrorists and collaborating "innocents."
