Right after the jet starts down the runway, a huge chunk of asphalt lifts up from the ground and blows away.................

Maho Beach, St. Maarten. Injuries, but they don't report stats on that by location. An occasional death. Lot's of idiots like this.

That does not look like runway, it looks like the black barrier you put down for new grass or weed prevention. You can see the same thing in the culvert, behind, where it flew up.

There was a John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton movie “Pushing Tin” where these two air traffic controllers stood at the end of a runway to get bounced around by the wake turbulence.

Agree…that is a weed barrier fabric off the runway.

We went there last October on Wonder of the Seas. I read about that beach but it didn’t sound like a great or safe idea, so we went to a different beach.

LOL. Ain’t it the truth. Of course when the pilot rotated, all of his problems were behind him.

All that thrust has to have something to push against for the plane to go forward.

I looked at again and noticed that the failure happened in a repaired portion. The original runway is concrete and the patched portion was just blacktop asphalt.

There’s a spot in Boston...not far from Logan Airport...where landing planes fly overhead at about 200 feet. My Dad and I used to go there in the afternoon to watch the 747s arriving from Europe. A couple of years ago I went to the same spot to watch an A380 fly over. Those things are *big*!

Probably thinking Winthrop as the spot planes fly low into Logan. Pretty confident you can hit one with a well-tossed baseball. A pretty cool spot to hang watching them all line up over the ocean prior to landing.

The spot I was referring to is Southie...Castle Island to be precise.I think it depends on wind direction...IRRC planes prefer to land *into* the wind...not with the wind. My Dad loved it because he grew up in Southie...I loved it for the planes and to see the smile on Dad's face.
