It wasn’t his main campaign slogan, but he used it more than once.
Remember when President Trump was vilified as a racist for saying MAGA?

They seemed just fine with Reagan saying it.

Certain FReepers would say I’m “just an emotional woman”, but when I read and see things about President Reagan, I just want to cry. It’s just unbelievable how fast we went from someone like him, to where we are now.
Who is "they"? Certainly not the major media of the day. They HATED Reagan and were gaga over Gorbachev.
They laughed at him when he said trees make more pollution each year than do the autos. He was right, while they were wrong. But they never admitted they were wrong & Reagan was correct.
But Reagan's slogan was actually: We can make America great again.

I knew it was slightly different than Trump’s, but I can remember him saying We Can Make America Great Again. Perhaps that was an opening slogan that morphed into Let’s Make America Great Again and became the one that was used on a more steady basis. It’s been 44 years, so either I have false memories, or I remember a lost slogan from the early days of his campaign. Most likely the first option is the reality. 🤣
