A killer whale calf has been stranded at Carmel River State Beach for at least nine hours, with crews working tirelessly to keep it comfortable until help arrives.
"We can't locate the parent pod so we don't want to float her out there and she not be able to locate the rest of the pod and then she doesn't know how to forage, know how to hunt and do all the things she needs to survive on her own," said Monique King with the Marine Mammal Center.
The whale has been vocal and moving its tail, but the prolonged time on land is concerning.
Crews have been digging in the sand to readjust the orca and alleviate some of the pressure from gravity.
The crew reports no visible injuries, but they are still waiting on a diagnosis from the vet.
Depending on the diagnosis, they may use an excavator to pick up the whale and transport it to Long Marine Lab at UC Santa Cruz.
The situation remains critical as the team continues their efforts to ensure the whale's survival.
calling Clint Eastwood!
That didn’t take long.
You made us all proud.

Is there anything modern chicks cannot overthink? Get the whale into the ocean, it’s start making those whistling noises that travel halfway to Hawaii, the pod will respond quickly.
But that wouldn’t be as fun, would it?
I hope the little guy (or girl) is ok.
Call George....
My first thought....lol
BBQ time.
