Texting is evil, IMO.
Flame away.
DEI = The Journey “of Experimental Psychology”
I’m retired now, but I spent my whole career on the phone. Communicating.
Now I don’t want to even answer a phone, much less “communicate” with people for no good reason
Put me down for Texts.
And I will sit there and watch your call go to voice mail. My wife and kids were just discussing this last night. 15 years ago, we’d pay actual $$$ to buy a specific ring tone for our calls. Today, I’ll toss that damn thing across the room if it rings. Always, ALWAYS on vibrate. The best time to call me is TEXT MESSAGE.
If it has been a while, and time is not crucial, I like to send a typed or handwritten letter by snail mail. A girl I knew well in college got stomach cancer. I hadn’t kept in touch since marrying, but the handwritten note meant a lot to her. She followed up with a phone call while she was clearly heavily medicated, but the letter set ip a proper goodbye.
No flames. I agree.
It really kills me when some new Gen Z kid starts at my company. They send an email and ask to set up a Teams call to meet me.
I send them my phone number and tell them to call.
No shit, Sherlock.
Text for business, call for family.
Like I need “stronger social bonds” with those callers
..yeah, right.
To quote Sheryl Crow:
Hello it’s me, I’m not at home
If you’d like to reach me, leave me alone
I remember seeing a study long ago indicating that blind people feel far less isolated than profoundly deaf people do.
While true, texting still works in bad cellphone conditions in many cases.
I already knew this and attempt to do this. Texting is two machines talking to each other, requiring a huge amount more words to create fake symblance of emotions.
For many reasons I prefer texting.
Call, don’t text—at least for friendly, nonbusiness calls.
If we cam’t come to the phone, we can call back.
From friends, I’ll go for a phone call any day. But if your name doesn’t come up and your number isn’t in my contacts, I will let it go to voicemail. Texting is too impersonal and risks losing a lot in translation.
Personally, I don’t like text messages. I find them intrusive and aggravating. If it’s important, call me. If it’s not urgent, then just send me a damned e-mail.
but if your gmail account is malfunctioning, Google won’t respond to either texts or phonecalls OR even offer a chat function to fix it
GooGoo manages gmail like IneligibleHarris runs the the USA border
So instead of texting us your opinion, why didnt you just call everybody?
If the communication is important, invest in a call.
If it isn’t important a text is fine; if you have the capability to turn the whole thing over to a robot let it handle the matter and be done with it.
