A few years before Star Wars, he was in this fine film, Claudine (1974), which while mainly a comedy, told the harsh truth of how crippling the Great Society welfare programs were to Black families in inner cities. Jones was exceptional in it.

Conan : The riddle... of steel.
Thulsa Doom : Yes! You know what it is, don't you boy? Shall I tell you? It's the least I can do. Steel isn't strong, boy, flesh is stronger! Look around you. There, on the rocks; a beautiful girl. Come to me, my child...
[coaxes the girl to jump to her death]
Thulsa Doom : That is strength, boy! That is power! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it? Look at the strength in your body, the desire in your heart, I gave you this! Such a waste. Contemplate this on the tree of woe. Crucify him!

The actual voice of the Vader actor was very Scottish. It’s funny to hear him saying his lines.

“His film debut came in 1964’s Dr. Strangelove as Lt. Lothar Zogg.” The movie that was delayed to alter the script after the Kennedy assassination. The main character was a composite character of General Edwin Walker and another. Oswald attempted to shoot Walker earlier in Dallas.

In “A Family Thing” (1996), James Earl Jones took a sensitive subject matter and with Robert Duvall, made it just a family thing, brother to brother.

Iβm a very big James Earl Jones fan.
From the Sandlot, one of my faves, but not one of his bigger roles.
Mr. Mertle: I take it back. You’re not in trouble, you’re dead where you stand.
