You do realize that Russia is so concerned about the Ukraine that they are willing to escalate to nuclear weapons if the West attempts to add the Ukraine to NATO. We would never allow this to happen to us with Russia taking over Mexico or Canada.

Using these missiles will do great damage and as you say spark Putin’s major retaliation, but I think Zelensky is counting on Putin going a bridge too far and striking bases in Poland or the Baltics that may or may not be actively backing the Ukies and
causing many NATO casualties. Then Z hopes those losses will propel NATO into the war. Then he hopes Putin bavcks down in the face of NATO’s response and backs out of Ukraine. I think Putin might go in a different direction
