As weed has become easier to obtain, it has become harder to smoke.A strange thing has happened on the path to marijuana legalization. Users across all ages and experience levels are noticing that a drug they once turned to for fun and relaxation now triggers existential dread and paranoia. “The density of the nugs is crazy, they’re so sticky,” a friend from college texted me recently. “I solo’d a joint from the dispensary recently and was tweaking just walking around.” (Translation for the non-pot-savvy: This strain of marijuana is not for amateurs.)

My tolerance giggles at this headline and says NONSENS3.
Cannabis has far more variety than alcohol since it is not only one drug. There are hundreds of different cannabinoids that each user experiences differently. Each strain is developed for different compounds and effects. There are strains even “speedier” than coffee that actually give energy and focus with close to zero impairing compounds (some of the true Cannabis Sativa strains with almost no Cannabis Indica genetics).
Unfortunately the very true Sativa strains are not commercially viable yet since can be up to 4X lower yields so only private growers can experience the full variety at this time. This is why people say commercial cannabis is often very sleepy and feels like on another planet (those feelings are linked genetically to cannabis indica which offers 4X higher yields/profits).
Where cannabis is illegal, nearly all the product falls into latter Indica category since users are never even sure what they are buying. Legalization is actually helping the development of the less impairing Sativa strains due to ability to invest in and accurately trace strains in the long term.
It is even possible for someone at home to breed their own strains optimal for their own medical purpose. Custom made medicine essentially for free. They choose the plants that best help with their condition and breed them until find the best genetics for themselves.
Many strains have ZERO impairing compounds and used by grandmas as medicine every day (usually through pills or tinctures). They are classified as hemp under federal law and not “marijuana” so you can order through the mail right now
So it's strength increased in the 80's, and now it has increased even more.
Boiling frog.
Smoking todays pot does not qualify as getting high. It qualifies as gross intoxication. Smoke a joint 30 years ago and have some laughs, listen to Led Zeppelin, eat a bag of chips, 4 hot dogs, drink a quart of cool aid and take a nap. Smoke a joint today and you better have a place to just lie down and stfu because you aint doing nothing that qualifies as fun or safe. The stuff is dangerous and its been that way for probably 10 years now. Its genetically engineered ffs. You buy it online according to its genetic strain. Its mutant mota. No thanks.
Yes this.
And I bet usage hasn't decreased proportionally to strength increase.
Even in the 60’s and 70’s. I remember when sensi became available. Kicked it up a notch for sure.
No need to smoke a whole joint today. A couple hits does it for me.
This is a timely post. Today, we’re having my wife’s side of the family over today - about 13 cousins and siblings. Except for me, none of them drink and are very sharp. However, one of them smokes a lot of weed. He’s like every other avid recreational weed user I’ve known in that he has zero ambition and used to be anti-social. I’ve not seen him in 20 years, so it’s going to be interesting to see how far he’s declined - or recovered?
Know your strains, Sativa is a more energizing high while Indica is more relaxing.
But, no need to waste smoke with buds, 83% vape concentrates are the way to go, no smell, just a tiny puff gets u a 3-4 hr blast lol
“If you grow your own, it is less powerful.”
Not if you get your seeds from ILGM.com
It’s the selective breeding that created these crazy THC levels.
Choose the strength you want — drink for taste only, if you like.

My motto for reefer is simple … “Treat it like a cocktail, not like a keg.”
Back in our salad days (ahem) the goal was to get obliterated — so blasted that you could only watch Spongebob and eat a bag of Doritos.
Now, I find it much more enjoyable to partake in moderation. One hit from a dugout or bong is plenty; just enough to fire up the imagination but not enough to get full-on stupid.
I’m well aware of the strains. Way back when I grew some Purple Haze from some seeds a friend brought back from Amsterdam. Just as strong as the stuff you buy today. It was so sticky you could hardly roll a doobie, paper would stick to your fingers and shred. The good ole days.
Same here. A couple hits and I’m nice and mellow.
I’ve been the same for 30 years... After 5 or 6 beers on the boat, just one or 2 drags and life is good. Never need any more than that!! ... well maybe one or 2 more hits after another 6pk!!
“Legalizing makes it more convenient for adults. Criminalizing it made it attractive to teens and they had absolutely no problems getting it when it was illegal, and I know that fact personally. Until it was legalized, they were getting better flower than I could find!”
I agree.
Pot was universally available and relatively cheap in the 70s. We kids had no issues obtaining it. Though $40 for an ounce of Columbian Gold was considered very expensive, most ounces were in the $15-$20 range.
In Florida, you can get a card (from a doctor) and go to the dispensaries. You can get a good sized discount the first time you visit each dispensary.
Once you’ve gone through all the local ones and your discounts are gone, friends tell me it’s just too expensive.
My first bag of Mexican dirt weed was $15. It was junk, had to smoke an entire fatty to get a buzz. Second bag I almost didn’t buy after the first one, was some really good Jamaican. Laughed hysterically at the dumbest things.
