Fake job ads are proliferating online, with more companies admitting to posting realistic-looking job openings that don't actually exist.
Forty-percent of companies said they have posted a fake job listing this year, according to a survey in May of 650 hiring managers from career site Resume Builder. Three in 10 companies currently have fake listings on their sites or on job boards, according to the survey.

Everything is lies, lies, lies
I have run in to a few of those fake jobs.............
I applied for a job as a ghost writer. Now I just need to find a ghost reader.
This is one of the downsides of digital media. The cost of posting B.S. online is almost $0, so there’s very little downside to inundating the internet with fake job postings, fake resumes, and fake ads.
I’m struggling to figure out why companines would do this; the reasons postulated in the article are not convincing.
Possibilities:
The HR personnel are trying to appear to be doing something useful.
Some portion of the current employees might be so marginal that the company wants to keep tabs on the available replacement pool. If the company gets applications from better quality applicants, they might find it easier to let their duds go.
They might be testing trends on pay expectations.
Indeed, I was raised by people for whom doing honest work, being respected at it, and the ability to provide for one's family was a major part of their character and purpose in life.
To have society, and especially companies, treat it so cavalierly and cynically, is just an outrageous marker of the destruction of basic norms of human decency.
Its surprising because I have not had to play in this rat-race. I was able to find a way to work for myself and with business partners with whom I have decades-long relationships. I thank God daily for that blessing
This is huge now EVERYWHERE. People simply can not tell the truth. It is in all aspects of life. READ the Bible. You can find the truth about everything in life there.
People don't want to follow the Bible. They refuse to follow what it says, but are ready at the drop of the hat to accuse everyone else for not following its precepts. Mass repentance and a turning back to God is the only solution. Otherwise, this nation will fall.
I think they do it to cover up how bad things are. Big Business Rule #1 is ‘Always look successful’. Success raises the stock price. No one wants to look like a bad bet.
Is it a black job or another type? Just following orders from the DNC.
One side concern I have in all of this is the amount of information people are sending to these employers and hiring companies as part of applying for ghost jobs. It’s bad enough that we have so much personal information on the Internet, but in the case of applying for these jobs, people are willingly sending it to them.
Some do it to monitor their own workforce by identifying those who want to jump ship.
Years ago I had an associate who was a backstabbing pain in the arse. He sent his resume to a PO Box job ad that a friend of mine opened to fill a legitimate opening in his CPA firm. My friend gave me the resume so I could write the rejection letter for him. Must admit that it was fun to write. Never said a word about it to the guy.
As if looking for a job wasn’t enough of a pain already.
So that's where we are headed. Messaging rules.
Is this similar to what the government does with thier fake jobs - and cash going under the table?
I’ve seen them where they will have a description of the various jobs they would be looking for, IF they had any actual openings... These some times show up in search engines and job sites.
I also expect that they're testing insourcing vs outsourcing.
"Why should we outsource this?"
~"Because the market is crawling with candidates who can do it."
or
"Why should we keep this in house?"
~"Because there are not many out there who have this experience."
Many job applicants exaggerate or lie on their resumes.
Companies post misinformation, and receive misinformation in return.
GIGO: Garbage In. Garbage Out.
All our politics, economics, and culture is GIGO.
I was working as a contractor for an HR subcontracting firm. I found a job listing online from my contracting employer for a full-time job. It was as if he’d looked at my resume and written the job specifically for me. He was a great guy, and we got along fine. He was also a practicing Christian. Which explains why he was honest with me. He said, “No, the job’s not real. None of my current advertisements are for real positions. I have to have a list of current resumes if someone comes asking for a particular type of employee.” I started keeping track. My particular specialty was narrow, and I usually knew who had real jobs and who didn’t. I realized that for that time period none of the dozens of postings were real. They were all collecting resumes just in case they got a contract and suddenly needed a dozen people.
That’s how it works. Company A gets a contract, and they’re expected to start performing RGHT NOW. But no one has a staff of idle, qualified people just sitting around waiting for A to get a contract. A gets a contract and they need people within the month.
It used to be that big companies, like Honeywell and General Dynamics could let qualified people sit on overhead until they were needed. But not anymore. If they don’t have a billable job for the employees, the employees are gone before the next pay period starts.
Could be payroll fraud ....... maybe SEC and IRS fraud.
