A 3,500-year-old jar has been accidentally smashed into pieces by a four-year-old boy during a trip to a museum in Israel.

The Hecht Museum in Haifa told the BBC the crockery dated back to the Bronze Age between 2200 and 1500BC - and was a rare artefact because it was so intact.

It had been on display near the entrance of the museum without glass, as the museum believes there is "special charm" in showing archaeological finds "without obstructions".

The jar was most likely originally intended to be used to carry local supplies, such as wine and olive oil. It predates the time of the Biblical King David and King Solomon and is characteristic of the Canaan region on the eastern Mediterranean coast.

I would have gotten my bare legs beaten with a switch

A switch that I, myself, had to get off the tree. And if said switch was too flimsy, mom would use a 2x4. (Yes, hyperbole)

There were originally 15 commandments but Moses dropped one of the tablets walking down the mountain.

That’ll teach the museum for allowing the boy to juggle vases

Did you see the photo of the display, too? The jugs are set on tall iron display frames making easier to knock over. All that’s missing are the “Break Me” signs.

It predates the time of the Biblical King David and King Solomon....
Based on their own estimates, it could predate those kings by more than 1000 years.

If they're presuming the public reader is too ignorant to be able to understand some other reference, why presume they can even place Solomon and David?

Averaging the estimate dates given for the vase (1800BC) places it about the time of the birth of Abraham.

Let's face it. It had survived quite a long time (about 4000 years) before the incompetent curator exposed it to danger.

Same here, mid-’60s, the belt or a switch made from a willow branch.

Of course if the crime was serious anything ready to hand served, a shoe, a broom, etc.

LOL
