A woman who changed her style to wear 1950s style vintage clothing has revealed men now 'treat her differently' since transforming her wardrobe.
Brooke Stretton, 24, from South Yorkshire, became fascinated fashion from the 1940s, '50s, and '60s after watching the classic film Grease.

I dress for comfort, I just don’t dress like an eight-year-old boy.
I agree.
Letting the door slam in someone’s face is exceedingly disrespectful
I went retro several years back, dressing more 50’s- a life changer for respect and attitudes. I also get a lot of compliments. I enjoy being a ray of sunshine in people’s lives, too, when I see faces light up. It’s like ministry. It’s also a refreshing change to femininity from the corporate witch, grunge or prostitute look.
You probably should read the article.
Lidia Lidia the tattooed lady who looked like an encyclopedia tune comes to mind.
LOL. I pull the same move for the ladies. That or “Open, for I command it” and wave my arms like a magician.
I know a young lady who likes to dress in 1940s style and pulls it off amazingly well. She’s only 18, and she’s already got a marriage proposal from a decent guy who actually means it.
That's sad and rude on the females part. If someone holds the door open for me I always smile and say thank you. Common courtesy and manners is a standard I choose to maintain. No, I'm not some old prissy biddy, just a (hopefully) decent human being.
What response do you get for that?
I want to compare to the response to my “Open Sesame”
I’ve been known to respond to the snark with “I’m sorry ma’am, I mistook you for a lady.”
That's what I feel like when I wear a suit. It's not showing off or attention getting; it adds a little brightness to peoples lives. It also gives permission to other men to, at least occasionally, not dress like little boys.
It's happened three times lately.
There I am, minding my own business grocery shopping. I come to the end of an aisle, just as a lady is fixin' to cross that aisle. We both stop, I indicate ladies first. She says no, you go ahead.
When wimmin folk defer to you, *sigh* you've arrived at old age. I will mutter while passing "Figures. Age before beauty, grumble grumble grumble..."
Excellent retort. If I was within earshot I would start laughing.
My kid say ‘one of these days you’re going to get killed.’
They’re probably right. It will be worth it...
...kids say...
Go figure men will treat a woman like a lady when she acts like a lady and will treat a woman like a mattress when she acts like a mattress. 4
interesting, I am usually most comfortable in a well-fitting suit.
Sounds like you might be buying the wrong neck size in shirts, which would be miserable
The after picture — what a cute outfit!
That’s the problem I had for years. I need a 16” neck for my shirts, otherwise they’re too tight.
Differences are always interesting to me. I also recognize I am strange in this regard. It’s not the neck size - I don’t like fabric over my skin. The less the better. One of the reasons I can’t tolerate a mask.
I can’t stand a hat either. I rarely wear a coat in winter, unless I absolutely have to. Above the waist, a 100% cotton t-shirt is tolerable. From the waist down, nothing really bothers me, except jeans which are too heavy and thick. In other words, dress pants feel fine.
