"Russia's wartime economic boom is masking much deeper problems, according to a group of researchers.
The authors of a recent article, who hail from institutions including the Yale School of Management, the Wharton School, the Carnegie Endowment, and the Kyiv School of Economics, cast a stark warning for Russia's economic situation despite the nation posting strong growth numbers since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Russia's economy is expected to expand another 2.4% this year, according to figures from the International Monetary Fund. However, much of that growth stems from the Kremlin's wild spending spree, and Russia's economy is hindered by a number of problems that could set it up for trouble in the long run, the researchers said.
"The reality of Russia's economic situation is far more complex and concerning than some would have you believe. The productive core of the Russian economy has been severely compromised," the group wrote in an op-ed for Fortune this week.
Russia has been spending heavily on its military and defense sectors, setting a record military budget for 2024. But that spending has come at a cost to Russia's private sector, some economists say, with other areas of its economy being slammed by a severe shortage of workers as resources get funneled into Russia's invasion of Ukraine." β’ Russia's finances look rocky in other areas as well, thanks partly to Western sanctions.

Dang, I’m glad I finished my ice-cream sandwich about 6 minutes ago. I didn’t want it to be on my screen or keyboard.
Those stupid Russians should take a cue from America and operate with a balanced budget instead of burying themselves in trillion of rubles debt.
Wait!
What?
Never mind.
TOTALLY not gaslight-y or anything like that.
No projection at all. It's like being caught in a truthiness flood.

KEY RUSSIAN AIRFIELD DESTROYED, KERCH CROSSING BURNS! Breaking War News With The Enforcer (911)
The Enforcer

Russia is the richest and best armed nation on the planet.
*** “Russian forces have been cut off south of the Reka Seym, and are completely surrounded with the pontoon bridges under heavy attack, and all paths of retreat destroyed.
This is a major Victory for Ukraine, as they drive forward crushing the weakened brigade and securing a very strong redoubt on their western flank.
Meanwhile the Kerch crossing continues to be set a blaze after an explosion earlier today destroyed and sank the last railroad ferry that is operating in the Kerch strait, a serious blow to Russian logistics.
The airfield in Marinovka has been seriously damaged by last night’s airstrike. Meanwhile Ukraine announced a new offensive in the Kharkiv Oblast.”
Ok so we are spending hugely. All of it is additive to the US debt. Russia is literally trading products for oil gas and gold which it has in abundance. It’s economy is growing. It has very little debt. And there are plenty of jobs. The war has been going on for about three years and everyone has been saying that Russia can’t do what Russia is doing. They say that BRICS will never work but a hundred new countries want to join. So, is Russia in trouble. Not sure how you defend that. They are better off now than when the war started. They control more of Ukraine now. And Ukraine has run out of men to fight. This war is done. Russia won.
Yep. Russian job growth was revised downwards by 800K over previous figures over the last year. Ooops, those numbers were from some other lying government.
“Thank you”
