Folks need to learn to travel in buddy teams if they can. Unstable people are everywhere and they prey upon good-natured people.
That’s a change. The media is including the perpetrator’s race in their reporting.
The USA is now a low-trust society.
It’s not much different than most third-world nations.

Yes. And do NOT argue with them or try to correct them. No good can come of that.
Crazy person: “You looked at me funny.”
Me: “Oh, sorry about that. No disrespect meant.”
Distance is your friend. So retreat in an orderly fashion if you can. But if you’re an old guy (like me) you can’t outrun a younger, crazy person. So always have a backup plan - police-grade pepper spray at a minimum.
Fox and Sabre are good brands. Both are available on Amazon.
Just my two cents.
Is that some kind of camera stalk sticking up above his shoulder? I wonder if he was recording this as some kind of Jackass style prank.
It’s something sticking out of his backpack...................
You don’t see that too often anymore....
Only because he’s white.
Looks like the handle of a small collapsible umbrella.
I work with a bunch of idiots who love Fells Point. I refuse to go into the city unarmed.
That’s why I never, ever, leave the house unarmed.
The guy that mows my lawn is a retired ex-cop. He also served in GW1 and afterwards for a “security company” in Iraq.
We talk occasionally about stuff and we got on the subject of carrying. I mentioned I don’t carry all the time - only when I travel or am going somewhere unfamiliar.
His response - why aren’t you carrying all the time?
Wisdom was not lost on me.
I have travelled in bunch of third world Asian countries. Their cities are safer by orders of magnitude. Even Philippines. In Singapore you can go for a stroll after 10 pm without danger of assault. I saw sign boards in Singapore saying drug dealers get automatic death penalty in Singapore.

Good advice. But here’s the thing. Many people just aren’t comfortable with guns. It could be for religious reasons, or whatever. There’s nothing much you can do to argue against that.
That’s why I push police-grade pepper spray (Fox or Sabre). I even mention it to folks who are carrying! Pepper spray fills the gap between fists and firearm.
When my young relatives went off to college, they all got a present from me. Not an iPhone or a backpack. Police-grade pepper spray.
“assaulted by an unidentified white male”
Amazing, they can tell the race of the perp! It’s a first!
I read once, and have never attempted to verify it, that more people are murdered in their home than anywhere else.
Of course that was long before there was meth being sold on every corner.
Nevertheless, it made me aware hat there is no safe place.
As a reminder that it is not paranoid, a cousin and her husband were murdered at approximately 2:00 AM in their home by an intruder..in a very quiet rural area.
We are in deeper trouble than most understand.
There were shootings & stabbings all over Boston & Cambridge today.
Boston is, or was, one of the safer big cities in the U.S.
I lived in Chicago from 1962 to 1970. I could take public transportation after mid night on Clark Street. Never had a problem. I will not go back there now if they gave me a free house.
It’s been raining off and on recently in the Baltimore area. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s an umbrella handle.
