I lived in Chicago from 1962 to 1970. I could take public transportation after mid night on Clark Street. Never had a problem. I will not go back there now if they gave me a free house.

Same goes for New Orleans.
Back in the late 1980s, The Hyatt Hotel at the Super-dome occasionally offered a weekend couples’ getaway. One could safely walk from there, over to Canal Street, then on down to the waterfront, Bourbon St. etc. and safely walk back to the hotel later in the evening with no issues whatsoever.
Today? One would need to be armed to the teeth to even think about trying such a thing even in broad daylight.
It’s a shame what the communists have done to our large cities.
