Good afternoon Freepers. This is a post to ask what I hope is a simple question. What do you all recommend for use as a web browser?
The reason I ask this question is because today I was trying to update my Mozilla-ish browser called Palemoon. It's actually a Goanna fork of Mozilla so it's not really based on their programming code anymore, that I'm aware of. In the process of my task, I noticed that it wasn't playing well with a few secure websites, like ID.me, myPay, etc.
I use Brave as my primary browser, and I also have Chromium. The Chromium is there only as a repository of URLs I no longer use but that I like to keep on back up, just in case. Of course Edge is there only because W10 puts it there. I also have the aforementioned Palemoon because I still want, and like, to have a Mozilla-ish type web browser. It does somethings rather well, but for the most part it's sluggish, and as I mentioned, it doesn't do well with some secure websites.
Many web browsers have come and gone. The list on Wikipedia is very long with now defunct browsers. I used to use Maxthon but dropped that years ago. I also used Safari when it was available for Windows systems. I really liked that one but Apple dropped support for Windows back in 2012. I miss Netscape Navigator (yeah, I'm really dating myself!), but I won't use Firefox after what they did to folks on their board who contributed to conservative causes.
So, your thoughts are welcomed. Thank you.
I liked waterfox classic.

Both Vivaldi and Firefox can be hacked to enable multiple tab rows. https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/445548 https://github.com/Izheil/Quantum-Nox-Firefox-Dark-Full-Theme/tree/master/Multirow%20and%20other%20functions/Multirow%20tabs
I use uBlock Orgin to blocks ads and images.
Same here. Thank God.
I can't imagine what you're getting at there. Many people use Brave specifically for YouTube because of the ad blocking.
I was using palemoon back then for the most part.
I do not trust Internet browsers:
- Chrome
- DuckDuckGo
- Firefox Focus
Because of certain bugs.
- Chrome Snooping (Google lacks integrity)
- DuckDuckGo causes Internet disconnects (interferes)
- Firefox Focus Sniffs for recent SMS Messages’ text

Brave Browser
They take the Chomium engine and de-Google it.
Next, they add code that masks information about your device, software, and setup . . . that websites want to take from you.
Next, they add Brave features.
Trouble with Brave Browser, is that their developers often times add bugs when attempting to fix other bugs. That is a big problem with Brave Browser for Apple iOS devices; but also a problem with Brave Browser for computers.

Internet Browser Settings
When first introduced to Netscape, I found the settings to be daunting. But over time, I slowly learned, and I realized that I would have to keep on studying.
Now, I find the attempt to explain an Internet browser “problem” that can be solved by the user making a good attempt to adjust his/her browser settings . . . to sometimes be daunting, because many users will not methodically keep track of each step and its results.
They want a quick solution, but they refuse to use the tools that are within their grasp . . . if only they would study.

Bookmarks
They are the largest category of why an Internet browser user is frustrated with customer support.
Because: THE USER constantly fails to back up their bookmarks.

I have about 50 tabs open in waterfox all the time. Like the issue you’re having though, there are a few websites that it doesn’t get along with. I just use firefox or brave for them.
Brave. Solid, good features, keeps itself up to date, and the search engine’s pretty good and getting better.
It also exports page source under “save as”.
Thanks to SunkenCiv for the ping!
LOL!
“I can’t imagine what you’re getting at there.”
I regularly have problems viewing videos on YouTube using Brave. I can about 90% of the time but get error messages 10% of the time. It also fails to work with some government websites for me.
YMMV.
Been using Safari on Mac and iOS since 2006. I keep Brave around for when things don’t load properly in Safari (rarely need it). I use Perplexity for most search. I use Google for the rest.
I remember trying out Safari many, many years ago when it was available for Windows. I liked it. But now it’s not available for Windows and I wish it was. I would really like try to it again. But now Brave is my primary browser and I’m happy with it. I’m just looking for a good secondary browser now, something like Palemoon, to have as a back up. But if Safari was available I would definitely give it a whirl.
you can also export the html from Chrome by looking at page source, or are you talking about something else?
Using Startpage Search Engine
https://www.startpage.com
Advanced Search example
Search criteria: “vacuum cleaners”
Searching after: August 1, 2024
Excluding: cnet.com, cnn.com, co.uk, etsy.com, go.com, google.com, merriam-webster.com, nytimes.com, reddit.com, snopes.com, youtube.com
- - -
In the Startpage search field (NOT in the URL address field), enter:
“vacuum cleaners” after:2024-08-01 -site:cnet.com -site:cnn.com -site:co.uk -site:etsy.com -site:go.com -site:google.com -site:merriam-webster.com -site:nytimes.com -site:reddit.com -site:snopes.com -site:youtube.com
The exclusions reduce a lot of search results clutter.

Now that’s interesting to know. Good post.
Vivaldi
Likewise, I used to use PaleMoon, but it just didn’t work with too many websites, especially for my phone bill, water bill, etc.
Switched to Brave and that’s basically all I’ve used since. I did look at Kiwi on the phone when Brave got rid of tabbed tabs (now it’s only grid pictures), and they bullshitted about how hard it was to bring back but they were working on it, even though they never did :/ But, kiwi just wasn’t as smooth and doesn’t have a desktop version, so still just Brave. With the all-seeing eye as my backup for sites that don’t play.
I’m giving Librewolf a trial run. It won’t be my primary browser, but if it turns out to be a good replacement for Palemoon, but PM is gone. I hate to say that, it’s was once a good browser, but it just doesn’t work well anymore.
I’m giving Librewolf a trial run. It won’t be my primary browser, at least not yet, but if it turns out to be a good replacement for Palemoon, then PM is gone.
I watched it, thanks. I’m giving Librewolf a trial run. It won’t be my primary browser, at least not yet, but if it turns out to be a good replacement for Palemoon, it’s gone.
