You no doubt have conservative friends who strongly dislike Donald Trump. They can’t tolerate his take-no-prisoners rhetoric. His personality rubs them the wrong way -- he’s abrasive, crude, and in their opinion, obnoxious.
Their attitude reveals a form of narrow-mindedness known as tunnel vision. These conservative NeverTrumpers, when asked, typically admit that they like his policies -- securing the border, smaller government, lower taxes, and deregulation, to name a few. They say they could never vote for him, though. They apparently want a perfect candidate, but no such animal exists and they know it. They seem stuck on making the perfect the enemy of the good.
Their "...tunnel vision is over-reliance on internal information..." such as bias. They refuse to grasp that Trump’s personality might only be one percent as important as his accomplishments while in office or what he could do in a second term.
These conservative NeverTrumpers show zero gratitude for what Trump has done for them. It’s no exaggeration to say that no other Republican could have beaten Hillary Clinton in 2016. She would have been president for four or eight years. Can they even imagine what living through that would have been like?
During his first term, President Trump was able to get three conservative judges appointed to the U. S. Supreme Court. In the years since then most of the court’s rulings have been applauded by all conservatives.
Common sense should teach us that every human being is a package deal. The conservative NeverTrumpers often say something like, “I just wish he weren’t so braggadocious!”

Unfortunately these weasels are in positions of influence. Case in point- In Wisconsin Uber weasel Speaker Robin Vos and his incompetent minion State Republican Chair Brian (Judge me by my results) Schimming are working behind the scenes to shiv President Trump in the back.
These 2 are more interested in purging conservatives from positions of leadership and representation vs. going after the looney left. As long as their comfy sinecures are secured, they will allow this state to become East Minnesota or North Illinois.
All analogies fail to some extent. I’m still trying to figure out who Eddie is?
The “Long March through the institutions” includes the Republican Party
They’re Democrats. They’ve ALWAYS been Democrats.
Not difficult to understand.
Reminds me of the great college basketball coach Bobby Knight.
The guy who was best man at my wedding is such a “principled conservative.”
He became absolutely insufferable. No longer a friend.
Weak men are disturbed by Trump. I’ve observed very solid conservatives express disgust and revulsion despite sharing many identical views.
Its a personality problem for men who think of themselves as protectors of the women and the civil discourse (from Trump) but without sufficient self confidence to know he is not a threat.
It seems the new cohort of Trump supporter growth is the NeverTrumper cohort that are biting their tongues. Pragmatism overshadows the angst of mean tweets and pet names for the opposition.
I’d love to see the campaign really use billboards. The digital ones can change the message by the minute.
No tax on Tips-Trump
Stop taxing Social Security-Trump

Those types are more interested in politicians that have the right haircut.
Trump is not a conservative.
But Trump supports many conservative policies and fights for them without compromise.
Trump was going to do an assault weapons ban with Feinstein after the Vegas massacre, but didn’t because the Democrats kept undermining him.
Trump shrank spending on what he controlled, the White House, but signed every spending bill and increased our debt.
But Trump’s positions and willingness to fight for them make him the best we have at this time. I would have gladly supported DeSantis if he won the nomination, because he is a true conservative who fights for those principles and knows how to jab the left.
But like DeSantis, I am fully behind Trump in the general election. There is no middle ground here.
Anyone who cannot see what the leftward leap taking place is doing to our nation is uneducated and should not be allowed to vote. Those that support the leftward leap are really communists, even if they cannot admit it.
Trump is the anti-communist and who we need right now.
Outstanding may mean 53%. I get that you can’t always get what you want.
I want MORE. But we won't if something isn't done about Trump's Achilles - his personnel instincts.
They're a virtual dumpster fire. Sessions, the Mooch, Bolton, Tillersn, Mattis, Giuliani, McCabe, Nikki Haley, Sally Yates, Flynn, Hope Hicks, Reince Priebus, Rod Rosenstein. Oh, and Pence...and endorsing McCarthy. And PA and Alabama primary nonsense.
All this outstanding stuff begets an inability to administer policy so we have a shot at the other 47%.
And this is not an inconsequential Achilles. Indeed, picking Rudy to lead the stolen election charge was a disaster. He may have been America's Mayor but he was out of his league when arguing cases. In fact he was by many accounts hung over and that's why his hair dye was trickling down his face.
Maybe that deck was stacked against him, but our "ace" pitcher had no heat and the skipper kept him on the mound out of loyalty.
I love poking the eyes of the MSM. I love memes. But I want permanently lower taxes, a rolled-back Leviathan, fiscal sanity, a secure border, tamed inflation, enemies of America that fear us, and harmony and prosperity at home.
Ignoring a problem won't make it go away, and this is a big problem. Re-electing Trump is tough enough, but I don't want to spend four years crossing my fingers on him selecting competent pit bulls to administer MAGA.
The boorishness I can tolerate... think of Rodney Dangerfield as president. It’s the pettiness and demands for slavish loyalty that piss me off.
In short, SHEEP!
Personally I want to see more abrasiveness, more defiance, more insolence, more belligerence.
He fights.
He wins.
He KOs. He is a champion. He is the Ali of politicians.
Thank you for your thoughts.
I think it was Musk.
excellent post.
Thank you.
And just to be clear, I am elated at the 53%. No President since Reagan gave us the peace and prosperity we got under Trump.
The things I discussed are fixable, unforced errors. But I prefer Diamond Dave all else being equal.
Good post. I will be voting for Desantis in 2028.
