FLORIDA — Anywhere from 17 to 24 named storms with winds 39 mph or greater are forecast during what is expected to be a “highly active” Atlantic hurricane season, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in its mid-season hurricane outlook update Wednesday.
Hurricane season runs June 1 through Nov. 30.
Of these named storms, anywhere from eight to 13 could become hurricanes with winds of 74 mph or higher, including four to seven major hurricanes that are category 3, 4 or 5 with winds of 111 mph or higher. The updated outlook includes the four named storms to date.

Run around in circles, waving arms frantically.
The weather report says it’s raining on me right now. I must be wrong about being dry.
Are they going to formally take it back if it doesn’t happen?
Next up, Ernesto. Early prediction will be strong but headed north off the Atlantic, brushing Bermuda and heading toward Maine. We shall see...
Guess why?
Climate change to blame!
“”Highly Active””
Riiiiight.
They said the same thing after hurricane Katrina. Reality turned out very differently. Rush would often point out that after Katrina, no hurricane made landfall in the United States for over a decade.
Also, this is the same profession that daily gets to use vocabulary that would get you fired in any other vocation: Maybe, Perhaps, and my all-time favorite ‘chance of.’ They also interchange ‘partly cloudy’ and ‘partly sunny’ all the time.
Once doppler radar became available to the public, I use that instead of listening to ‘perhaps.’
I was stunned that this article managed to discuss the topic of weather without bending the knee to the “climate change” gods.
Storms happen. Floridians are rarely caught off guard.
Meanwhile North Central PA is underwater from Debby remnants w/ all the creeks overflowing, and no one notices or reports on it.
The incredible thing is they say it every year.
This crap started in the 60's with "THE ICE AGE IS COMING!!!" (and throw in some acid rain and holes in the ozone.)
It's all about control.
Oh jeez, I guess I was wrong?!
I was always able to predict the culprit of all natural disasters.
One time, I have not read the article. Sorry, sorry, thanks to pointing this to me.
99% of all weather articles whine about “climate change”.
It was a long shot that this one would not.
Lol.
Actually, a lot of it has to do with El Nino and La Nina. The water temperatures are always there. It’s the other ingredients that up or down seasonal forecasts.
Here is a similar one I use sometimes.
Can't have too many weather sites bookmarked. Smoke and fire websites are handy too.
WEATHER!!!!!!!!
“The incredible thing is they say it every year.”
Yep, because no remembers and holds them accountable for their mistakes after the fact. Their inaccuracies need to be exposed every time they do it. Their credibility needs to be destroyed.
